I can only think of 8 atm it seems. It seems I like prog.

Albert Ayler? Ornette Coleman? George Adams? Derek Bailey?

Hmm...Ayler was a big miss for me. He totally deserves to be on my list.

Asmuch as I love Bailey, his solo discog has too much solo guitar for me to rate it too highly. But he has produced some great stuff. Good suggestions all. Thumbs Up
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

I always think more in terms of albums. There are many bands that have produced some of my favorite albums, but then I either haven't heard much of their other material or don't like their other material.
I was thinking this over. I included both Manic Street Preachers and Massive Attack on my list, on the basis that I couldn't possibly live without either This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours or Blue Lines, but do those groups really belong on my top ten list?  So how do you categorize a group that produced one brilliant album when you're kind of "meh" about the rest of their output?  and how different would a top ten non-prog album list look from a top ten non-prog band list?

Hmm, I sense another thread in the offing.
Indeed. Television's Marquee Moon is one of my favorites, but I couldn't put them on my list for just one album. On the other hand, And Also the Trees, the Fall, and Boris have had long runs without a single bad album that I've heard, yet their albums may mean less to me than some others by one-great-album bands. I also didn't include more recent bands or ones that maybe are my favorites now, but haven't quite received a tenure. My list was very safe.
