Not the most relevant technically speaking, but Jon Camp's solo on the live version of Ashes are Burning (Live at Carnegie Hall) is my favorite bass piece. I also like a lot Martin Turner on Sometime's world and Joe Buchard on Before the Kiss a Redcap.

Well, I know all of these and love them all .Chas Cronk has great fluidity, Pattenden really liked the 'hard' riff, while Martin Turner really killed it on FUBB. Both Gee , Jowitt and Camp have great technique and style. I guess the Strawbs bassist followed by Jowitt , who is delightful to watch live.
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

though probably not what the OP was looking for. I think he wants to know which of those Neo bassists we don't talk about (hmmm.. wonder why ) rank with the greats and yeah... Jack smokes Geddy 7 days a week and 3 times on Sunday. Even Geddy would tell you that...

OK, we all know Geddy Lee is the best bassist ever - well except maybe for Tony Levin, Chris Squire or John Myung or someone else.
But these 6 never get a mention; I've never seen any of them discussed on here but I think they're all great players. But who's the unheralded king of 4 strings (or 5 in Peter Gee or John Jowitt's case)?
