Me too, including the much berated Hai Hai album, though I have yet to hear his Open the Door album.

A single user saying "Bitches love" isn't discouraging anyone in the community. Sure, it is a moronic thing to say (if it's used unironically), but it isn't as sexist as saying "oh you're a woman so you don't know anything about prog!" This is where I think using the term 'sexist' loses it's definite meaning and the actual weight it carries.

That's just what I think.

being a woman I consider "bitches love..." in conjunction with advice how to get laid as extremely sexist. a post like this reduces me to a mere sex object. what can be more sexist than that?
I apologize that I worded that poorly. What I'm trying to say is one person saying that does not represent our community as a whole. Are there sexist people on PA? Of course, just like any part of the world! But to say that their feelings represent a majority prejudice is hyperbole at best. I strongly discourage this behavior just like anyone else but also refuse to let them tarnish the name of this site.

I do agree it was one person.  However, it is a more wide-spread problem if no one else notices it.  This is an issue with systemic sexism - one person displays it, but many people pass it over because they don't recognize the problem.

My own example is that my favourite song off of In The Court of The Crimson King is Moonchild.

Please keep the discussion respectful and try not to reduce it to just "I hate ____ band because they suck".

Thread hijacked by a discussion on sexism.

Then I can really recommend to listen to Open the Door. I think it is as good as In the Eye of the Storm, while Hai Hai was quite a letdown IMHO.

Sorry for 'hijacking' the thread, but because the question was raised, I also wanted to give a comment on that: It is  not really a PA problem (because the Admins take care of that racists, sexists and the likes soon disappear, thanks Admins!), but a problem of the prog world in general. Single opinions, that shine through on PA only reflect this situation. Some of the things I have already read here on this forum:

"Women cannot play drums, it is too exhausting for them."

"How do you convince your girlfriend to listen to prog?"

I'm not quite sure how this is sexist. This could easily be said by anyone who wants their significant other to enjoy the music they like. It's not saying anything like "women shouldn't listen to prog", it's someone trying to encourage their girlfriend to enjoy the same experience. Can this be explained to me?

Yeah, I don't get how it's sexist either. It's just like asking how to get a friend into prog, it's simply advise for getting whomever into the same music.

I never saw this as sexist.
I believe my advice was just to find a woman who was a prog fan in the first place and save yourself a lot of work.

It's all right hereSmile

Cheers, Dave....I didn't have the patience, the frame of mind or deodorant strong enough to last how long it would take to explain the differences this time around (plus my back is killing me at the moment!), so nice save, pal!

My back...weak deodorant...sh*tty patience....I don't blame you!!

Also, a lot of the metal bands are somehow considered prog, which is a long stretch by far, since they show very little innovation or uniqueness.

I didn't even know Santana was a prog band in the first place
I don't know what to put here

At last, someone who agrees with me! I thought I was going nuts - just about everyone around seems to be just drunk of Steven Wilson and consider Tool a prog band, even though the latter are IMHO as much prog as for instance Velvet Underground or Throbbing Gristle are.

"What does Elvish rock music sound like?" - "Yes."
