RICHARD WRIGHT - Wet Dream (1978)
SECOND HAND - Reality (1968)
WALLY - Wally (1974)
...

SEVENTH WAVE should be mentioned. And I didn't even get to the foreign bands, yet!!!!!!!!!

Gosh ... each and every time you, or someone else, posts something like this, I go back in time really quick, and I can hear, yet again, most of the Space Pirate Radio shows ... where all these and many more were always a part of it. New, and exciting music rarely was left behind Guy's hands and ears ... and the 300 plus hours I sent him of mp3's from 1974 to 1980, showed this all really well.

Some of these I still love dearly ... Wally, Second Hand, Richard Wright, Ramases, Refugee, Quatermass, Nektar, Help Yourself/Neutrons/Man, Capability Brown, Edgar Broughton Band, Groundhogs, Family/Streetwalkers ... I have never been able to "lose" anything of theirs ... and now you know the reason why I can not name a favorite obscure prog band ... there are too many of them in my listing! And they are all very alive in my head!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Going back thru this thread, where did most of the original posters go?? Did they make themselves obscure?? Ermm ...sad

Yea, obscure in prog music is not really obscure. For me and my rock/metal friends a very obscure band would be CAN.

The Legs on Wheels' 2023 album is quite good. That is just off the top of my head.

TBF, that's what artists sometimes do when they try to come up with names LOL

The fact that Paul has a band called Pussy on his list with an album called Pussy Plays tells you were Paul's head is at. He has cats. TongueWink

My favorite obscure prog band is that one that recorded one unreleased album and the recordings are still unreleased. They were the perfect mix of classic Yes, Gentle Giant and Soft Machine! Yeah so obscure it might not even exist! Heheh

^To the non prog fan King Crimson(ditto Marillion now that I think about it) are considered obscure in most cases. So pretty much anyone more obscure than KC is obscure to the average person. I would think that bands like Gentle Giant, Strawbs, PFM, Camel, Magma, Nektar, Focus, VDGG, Renaissance, IQ, The Flower Kings, etc would not be obscure to most prog fans. Gryphon probably occupy the gray area in between known and obscure.

I don't really know if Gryphon is considered obscure, but I have always loved their unique take on progressive medieval folk.
Camel and Focus are both, I think, underrated, but not obscure.
Those three are all I can think of at the moment.
