Discipline is KC at their best - intricate, tight, groundbreaking, the music of insanity, innovative.  While I enjoy UK's debut, it is one of those albums where I admire the musicianship more than anything else.  It has never jelled with me.
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

Hmm....25 to 39 is fairly close.......some board stats: Discipline rates 4.11 and UK comes in at 4.09 here on PA....not much difference.
I'm a KC fan (probably my favorite prog band if push came to shove...) but with Belew on board Fripp went in a direction that wasn't my cup of tea. There are some nice tracks on Discipline: Frame By Frame, Elephant Talk, but it doesn't grab me and some of the other tracks just seem to be exercises in weird soundtrack music.
And I don't like the way Belew sings either.
And imho Fripp has nothing on Holdsworth who is his equal in technical ability ; though Fripp did invent the 'Frippertronic' thing, I have always thought many were his equal on guitar in general. And add in Wetton, Bruford, and Jobson....how can you go wrong with UK?
In the end it's a matter of subjective taste as always but if I were sitting around with a craft beer I'm going to put UK on before Discipline....if those were my two choices.
