They are pretty darn close to me.

I'll give Ummagumma a vote.

Atom Heart Mother. I think it's the more focused of the two.
He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

AHM is one of PF's best records.
Ummagumma is just a mess.

Close. Ummagumma for the live album and collection of demos that could have been a really good album had Pink Floyd appeared on it. Probably should really belong on the up coming box $et... Surprised Eugene was not fully reinstated ... unless it has been on the latest master? Mine go back to 1990s Japanese issues.

AHM is great - really I like both albums equally. As for Alan's FX - well ignore 'em or edit them out and stick the instrumental sections together and you get a(nother) lovely Rick Wright piece.

Just wait 'til we get to officially hear the band only (non orchestral) renditions of AHM. There are some great versions...

I guess it might be interesting to hear the band only versions of the song. Actually, I have heard one, and it is enjoyable. But in the end I love the interaction between orchestra and band so much on the studio version that I really doubt I would like any other version better.

Well, it's not really a competition as to which one's best - though I'm sure a PA Poll will help to perpetuate such conflict.  Wink The idea is to have two versions that give a fine musical experience. I've enjoyed all the orchestral versions and the slightly shorter band one is also fine. What's more we'll be getting footage...

While I have it on a DVD there'll probably be you tube footage of Floyd performing it at Hyde Park (orchestral version). Mine is just the one camera shot, (top righ, high). Not as frustrating as my DD of Genesis at the Lyceum (Tony Banks, left shoulder). Sounds great though.

Speaking of You Tube the KQED footage will probably be around, it's terrific. Band version of Atom Heart Mother.

P.S.
Is there some sort of synchronicity between Waters songs about mothers and an atomic association?

Easily Ummagumma, and not just for the live album either. Prefer studio Ummagumma to AHM as well. Floyd at their most avant-garde.

I can dig that man.... yeah.. Ummagumma by a couple of lightyears.  The Studio side more interesting even today to listen to...  and the live side just leaves Atom Heart Mother in the dust.

Umma Gumma by a long shot for me too and for the same reasons.
