The Boys from the Bay, of course.  But I'm prejudiced.

Hell yeah, I knew all those bangers back in the day.  I saw Hammett when he was with Exodus.  Oh I'm old.

Really tough to choose, but went with Metallica.

If it was Vengeance (The Pact) instead of Joan Crawford I might have given BÖC its first vote - but Metallica.

Oh wow.....so you probably saw the Kill Em All stuff when it was brand new.....now that would be the Metallica show I'd want to see.

Maiden for me, even if this choice doesn't strike as the strongest one.
For BÖC, I would have rather chosen the pair "Black Blade / Monsters"

You know, I think you are dead-on with both comments.  I didn't pick the strongest Maiden.  And while I think those 2 BOC tracks are awesome, they are more to the arty side while trying to compete with heavies, whereas your BOC picks are closer in spirit to the choices of the other bands.  Good post.

Of course; I remember Ron Quintana giving the LP away on the KUSF metal show every Saturday night -

So what was your impression of them back then David?  Any inkling they'd break out like they did?

Absolutely Sabbath. I still have a thrill listening to that album, and extremely fond memories of seeing them live.

Absolutely not.   Hetfield and Ulrich were a couple of pimply-faced wannabes with questionable talent and musical taste.   They bashed out Motorhead and Angel Witch covers, wore bad straightlegs, opened for anyone, played keggers, couldn't sing or growl, and were embarrassingly naive white punks.

Hat's off to determination.

ClapLOL   Alright!   Now we're f**king getting somewhere.  So are you saying you saw this band play keggers???   Even if not, even if you have no photos.....the idea just reminds me of many old friends.  Nice to know someone who knew Metallica at that stage.  That's rock and roll.  Creating that band with your buddies and doing it because.......it feels good!Clap

^ That's exactly what it was, they were just making sh*t up as they went and having a lot of fun.   I think the timing was right: SF had become the metal capital in the U.S. but we didn't really have our own guys, our own "sound", it was still the Brits & Euros ~ Maiden, Yngwie, Priest, Scorps, Ozzy, Saxon ~ but until Metallica broke out, the Bay Area had Metal Church and Exodus and that was about it.
