I just bought the worst Marillion album recently and I still prefer it over any of my seven Rush albums.

Fish era Marillion.
A more interesting comparison would be Rush from AFTK to Moving Pictures versus Marillion from Script to Clutching at Straws, which I suspect Rush would win hands down. |

Two good albums in my view. The ones that are subpar to me are Less Is More, Radiation and Holidays In Eden in that order.

Marillion in the early to mid 80s were a breath of fresh air. I am a huge Rush fan but give ma Script over any of those post MP albums.

right, if he said Someone Else, I would more or less agree. Every Marillion album has got some hidden gems, even Somewhere Else (title song, The Wound, A Voice from the Past).

Rush 80s synth era, 90125 by Trevor Rabin & Co., Worlds Apart by Saga, and Alpha by Asia! The good old days!
King Crimson Discipline and Allan Holdsworth IOU / Metal Fatigue are other high points … but different subgenres. I want my MTV! With actual music videos. Kids riding missiles (Rush), people morphing into animals in a dystopian society (Yes), fence jumping parcours (Saga), Steve Howe as Indiana Jones (Asia), and Adrian Belew looking like Talking Heads (King Crimson). Own it! That was the Prog of the 80s. Nostalgia wonders … did I really live through that? |

Easy peezy, lemon squeezy. Marillion was best with Fish. Rush suffered from the 80s-synth assault. No match whatsoever.

I'm afraid Misplaced Childhood is the worst Marillion album for me, but Afraid of Sunlight is a bright, shining 5-star masterpiece in my opinion!

The Signals/Grace Under Pressure dyad was Rush's finest hour but my heart goes with Fish era Marillion. That brief period in the early 80s felt like a revolution to those who had missed out on the early 70s.
