Topic: Most Bizarre Story You Heard About A Music Artist Posted: January 25 2017 at 13:26
I would have to go with the story of the Detroit singer/songwriter named Sixto Rodriguez who released two totally ignored music albums in the early Seventies. Ignored throughout the world except in apartheid controlled South Africa, where he was considered as popular as the Beatles and bootleg recordings of his albums sold in the millions. Rodriguez was not aware of this fact until 1998 and has since returned numerous times to South Africa and performed to sold out venues.
Are there any little known bizarre stories of music artists that you know of?

Across the river from Detroit, Windsor, Ontario based Canadian hard rock band Teaze remained an insider tip except for a brief time in Japan, where they toured in 1978 to an intense Beatles like popularity and acclaim. They then disappeared from the music scene in the early 80s.

I could tell lots of little known and bizarre stories about Amon Düül 2. for example: did you know that Renate Knaup used to shoplift dresses? she went into the changing cubicle, put on several dresses above each other (which she could pull off because she was extremely thin back then) and then left the shop

Chevy Chase, he is/ was actually a pretty good drummer and used to play drums along side Walter Becker and Donald Fagen and were inches away of being the drummer in Steely Dan

About 10 years ago I was chatting with a friend of mine who was a session jazz guitarist in the Bay Area (now deceased, RIP). It was our first conversation in quite some time and we started comparing notes on music we were into. He asked, "Hey, ever heard of Buckethead?"
"Yes of course"
He proceeded to explain that he went into the studio, the circumstances of the visit or the exact studio I cannot recall, and saw a rather lanky dude sitting on the floor in the sound room. The guy was tearing up paper. He asked someone, engineer I assume, what the deal was with the guy. The assumed engineer told him that the guy was Buckethead and something to the effect that what my friend was seeing was a fairly typical use of his studio time. After a satisfactory amount of small pieces of paper were created, Mr. Buckethead scooped them up, clutched them in his hand, and tossed them into the air. The homemade confetti showered him like little snow flakes. When the last one hit the ground he stood up and started playing.
In the context of this guy being someone who plays with a Kentucky Fried chicken bucket on his head, it is probably a pretty uneventful, and dare I say, yawn worthy story. But it's the most bizarre story I know of outside of the famously debunked Rod Stewart stomach pump story.

I thought it was a wonderful story. It made me like Buckethead a little-or maybe even a lot more (who I really know nothing about outside of his guest appearances on Arcana - Arc of the Testimony). But I think I prefer nice stories about music artists over bizarre ones anyway.

this song by Inner City Unit appears to be fitting here:

If you want bizarre, look at the history of the Japanese band Les Rallizes Dénudés: if all of their records are nothing but bootlegs, it's for some good reasons. Their original bass player Moriaki Wakabayashi participated to the hijacking of a plane by the Japanese Red Army back in 1970 (he's been living in North Korea since then). After this incident, leader Takashi Mizutani became extremely discreet, since he feared to be scrutinized by the police (some said he was close to the Red Army, but it had never been confirmed). After the 90's, he even became more and more seclusive: after a last concert in 1997, no one is really sure where he has disappeared, even if some rumors say he could be living in France (maybe Paris) for a while...

John L., the singer of Ash Ra Tempel on their album "Schwingungen", used to appear naked on stage with painted penis and let himself be whipped. Really true!
The famous classical pianist Friedrich Gulda also appeared naked on stage once, for a classical concert. On another occasion he feigned his own death by having his obituary published in a newspaper.

And of course there is GG Allin. No point in really mentioning any stories as there is plenty of video evidence out there to document his sociopathic shenanigans. For those unaware of his existence, he was somewhat of a pioneer in the use of human waste as a stage prop.
