Gord Downey - Secret Path (ambient folk concept album about an aboriginal kid who ran away from residential school and died of exposure and starvation following the railroad tracks home. First album in a long time to give me goosebumps)
Lighthouse - 40 Years of Sunny Days (Canadian jazz rock band that I've known of forever but are even more interesting when I'm actually listening)
these look fun, I'll remember them
Only comment for Lighthouse is they're Canadian and I know I'm predisposed to liking Canadian stuff.
sometimes I feel like I'm predisposed to liking Dutch stuff but that doesn't matter because Dutch stuff isn't very interesting anyways

New moozak:

Makaya McCraven - Highly Rare - Jazz instrumentals reworked into jazz hop instrumentals.

Equiknoxx - Colon Man - Off the wall Jamaican sounds.

Street Sects - Rat Jacket - Some more industrial rock craziness to chew on and ruin your teeth with.

Primitive Man - Caustic - Some noisy sludge metal to chase Street Sects down with.

You should check out Bird Sound Power, Equiknoxx's album from last year. It's even more off the wall, at least compared to what I've heard from Colon Man, which I need to listen to in full.

Last really cool thing from this year I've heard was Songs by Taku Sugimoto & Minami Saeki. Very soft and sparse, mostly a Capella, but with some instruments, some objects as instruments in places, recorded in a park. I think it's even better than the Saritote Eps and live album.

As for other stuff I've been listening to, Michael Pisaro's Tombstones is v cool. I've kind of been trying to find more "Lowercase Song" type stuff. This is one of the best though. It features Julia Holter on harmonium and vocals. You can sort of hear Pisaro's influence on Loud City Song a little bit (Holter was a composition student of Pisaro's).

David Sylvian's Manafon in this vein as well.

I held off for way too long after D.I. Go Pop was just alright but this is just what that record should have been; crazy good!
and yeah, I was thinking of looking into Street Sects

I really need to get on with making my top 20 for 2017. I haven't even done a preliminary one this year.

Here's another new album to consider - Nihiloxica's self-titled, a powerful rhythmic statement from Uganda that reminds of a lot of Muslimgauze.

I rate my listens on ProgFreak so it prepares the list for me, but I always end up making adjustments at year-end as it is hard to rank albums in comparison individually versus against each other.  Inevitably, I always tend to like certain albums more than other albums which I may have rated higher when doing my ratings.

that's quite enticing too, I must admit; it's rare to find something actually similar to Muslimgauze so that's quite a promise
