Japansese trio (2 girls and a guy) that sound more like ELP than ELP do (or did)! There is a video clip on their website from a recent UK gig.Quite impressive stuff! http://arsnova.chocot.net/mov/index.html

IMHO, "The Goddess of Darkness" and "Android Domina", both excellent!

I've got "The Goddess of Darkness" but I don't like it. Its so ELP sounding, its like listening to a bad tribute band. I think I have a problem with the whole tribute band idea... However, someone recently mentioned that their new album, Biogenesis Project, maybe a better listen. |

'Fear and Anxiety' is the one I like most by them. Not so sure about 'Android Domina' which is a little weak sounding to my ears. There's also an excellent tribute album called 'Keyboards Triangle' where they and another Japansese prog band Gerard do some excellent covers of ELP,Wakeman,Banco and PFM tracks.Try the Musea label if you are looking to purchase any of their stuff.

Either Across The World (an excellent live album) or Book Of The Dead, or even Transi (their 2nd). All make fine intros to the newbie.

I have "Keyboards Triangle", very nice! But I remember the seller's words when I went to buy another cover band cd (Rael, a Genesis cover band): "If you like Genesis, buy the original Genesis stuff" . However, I like covers very much when they are well done.

Arsnova has evolved beyond simply being an ELP-inspired group. Remember, ELP and The Nice weren't the only bands doing this sort of thing back in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Le Orme (Italy) formed in 1967, and around that same time, Dutch keyboard player Rick van der Linden was doing interpretations of classical music in a rock & roll format with his band Ekseption (incorporating brass arrangements, too) that were even more (arguably) faithful-sounding than the Nice. Just because a band's line-up is keyboards/bass guitar/drums-percussion doesn't automatically mean they should be dropped and all attention should be focused on Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman. Only a close-minded person would think this way. Also, has anyone ever heard of the band, Bayon? A multi-ethnic quartet of German, Cuban and Vietnamese musicians, this group began recording material in 1970 that fused each player's indigenous musical influences along with (of course) classical and rock. In a way, what they were doing was even more progressive than Yes, ELP, and King Crimson, at the time. And please don't bring up Pink Floyd (the least progressive of the famous 70s groups).

Why is it that if someone doesn't agree with you.. that makes them close-minded. Actually my problem with Arsnova has nothing to do with how Keith Emerson they sound... hey the bassist plays a lot like Greg also... Its more that there is a lack of life in the music. Its like having a great technical player.. but with less character in the music. I don't hear the flow, I don't hear alot of improv..and its somewhat stale. And of course, they're missing the best instrument in ELP... Greg's voice. But thats just what I feel when I listen to them...I don't think that makes me close minded. I also don't like IQ at all... |

It is allowed to not like bands that others like! I also take the view that you can be as 'close minded' about music as you like.We all only have a limited supply of cash to spend on music and so it is neccessary to make judgements on everything we hear, and negative opinions should NEVER HAVE TO BE JUSTIFIED ,only EXPLAINED. BTW I like IQ! (but certain members of this forum know this already!)
