Topic: Thick vs Close vs Selling Posted: February 06 2018 at 23:14 |
This become that other poll, I have doubts my favourite Thick as a Brick will have the least votes. Anyway it really represents to me the greatest prog, although nothing wrong with those others (well maybe Close (that a-side) is little bit too excess to me, although learnt to love it too).

This is my guess how the vote will come out:
Thick as a Brick: 33 1/3% Close to the Edge: 33 1/3% Selling England by the Pound: 33 1/3%

Ouch! Just can't decide on this one. Three of my favourite albums of all time! Firmly sitting on the fence with this one! As Rush once said; "if you choose not to decide....you still have made a choice!"

Obviously this is an awesome poll.
Close to The Edge. Selling England by The Pound isn't far behind, but CtTE is what I'd consider the absolute pinnacle of progressive rock music.
Close to The Edge, Selling England by The Pound, and In a Glass House are my top 3 prog records.

All very good 4* albums for me, but the best bits of Selling England (Firth of Fifth and The Cinema Show) are amongst the best music ever made, so SEBTP gets it for me.

Selling England on this one !!! Gosh, the Yes album is sooo f**king terrific, I’ve burnt it out (still dig it heaps, know how it’s the ‘King’ of Prog etc. etc.). And Brick rates a fraction below Passion Play for my taste. Still a great album, all of them. But Genesis on this poll.

On the list of Top Prog Albums (see front page), the three of the most popular albums have these ratings: Close to the Edge 4,66 Selling England... 4,63 Thick As a Brick 4,63 On the light of that, it's surprising that Yes has only half of the Genesis votes this far. I had to vote Genesis, as Selling is simply the greatest classic to me personally. But each of them are absolute 5-star classics!

REALLY suprising at the moment, that Close is third and Selling leads. And that other poll Topographic leads. Everything upside down?

Thick as a Brick has absolutely no weak spot whatsoever and I keep playing it for the last 25 years or so. Close the Edge is okay but has weak spots. And I never really cared so much for Genesis. Although I keep trying. So I won't say anything bad about the band or the album.

To me for the moment Genesis reaches moods the other two does, an almoust jucy earnest sound which channels such tapestry like majestic sound

Funny, because I can't not hear TAAB as a joke record, despite how good it really is. Yes just sounds like magic to me. SEBTP is almost flawless but "More Fool Me" tarnishes it for me, hence Yes getting first place to my ears.

I can't believe...I've never been able to listen to the whole SEBTP in one shot and it's leading. It has good moments, but nothing to do with CTTE which is perfect in all its parts

I like all three about equally.

Thick as a Brick of course, but by a very small margin.
