Heart of the Sunrise is a bit of a mess for me. Great parts but the structure isn't cohesive enough to me. 21st Century Schizoid Man is a good KC rocker; not something I'm compelled to spin too often though. Good tracks, both bands did better stuff IMO. Voted both.
| "Heart of the Sunrise" can be gorgeous, but it has these noodly bits that feel unnecessarily jarring and I do think it would be better if it were more cohesive and elegant. As a teenager when Fragile ranked amongst my favourite albums, I made a mix tape (double cassette player) where I tried to edit it to make it sound better to my ears. I vote for "21st Century Schizoid Man". It's not off an album that I've spun much for many years, but I do still dig it now and then. I do put that on a mix CD at one time, sandwiched between "Peaches en Regalia" and "Free Hand" as I recall. That song played a significant role in me getting back into progressive rock and exploring it more deeply.

I'm using Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle on this one! Chickening out by choosing BOTH! Both classics for completely different reasons.

Gotta go with KC on this one....The Man is an incredible song from an incredible album that had a lot to do with changing the face of prog to come....at least imo. | Given the time of it's release, it was not so much changing the face of prog, but shaping it.

yeah that is some major league stuff man.. nice poll but Heart of the Sunrise still absolutely smokes 21st Century S.M in everything but not having Lake's awesome vocals.. but very little.. and not a damn thing by Crimson can stand against the 4 headed Squire, Howe, Wakeman, Bruford monster when on its game and this might have been the single best 'song' they did.

I could listen to 21st Century SM 21 times in a week and still enjoy it. Not so with Heart of the Sunrise.

heart of the Sunrise is exhibit A for why I've never really taken to Yes. Schizoid is about my 10th favorite KC song and it's still better...it would lose to "Close to the Edge" and "And You and I" though

Couldn't have said it better. They didn't fall into this problem often thankfully. I can see why it's so highly regarded though.

^Plenty of jarring bits in Schizoid Man......but then I think that was intended.

For those who don't know, the main riff of HotSR was actually based on the middle part of Schizoid Man.

I understand "Schizoid"'s significance, historically, but "Heart of the Sunrise" is one of my absolute favorite songs ever made. Can't vote against it...
