Tales has grown .. forum wise over the years in terms of love and respect.. you weren't here on this site when it was truly hated forum wise. I think the turning point was my review hahah which pointed out why haters of the album were f**king idiots

I'm surprised at how far ahead Tales is, honestly! I just assumed everyone hated that record.

Haven't heard nearly all of these. Went with Nektar from the ones I know. Missed Ocean Gypsy/Sounds of the Sea, both by Renaissance.

It's not an album, but I've been listening to "Oceancloud" off of "Marbles" and can't help thinking this is Marillion's best song. Sorry to go off-topic, sort of.Among the selections here, I go with Eloy followed very closely by Focus, then Jade Warrior, Nektar and Yes. Yes has my favorite song of all these groups, "Revealing Science of God," but the rest of the album is hits and misses, often in the same song. IMHO.

I had to give Nektar a little love, a great album in their amazing discography.

Of these, XTC's Black Sea because, well, XTC. Maybe not prog, but, you know, XTC.
After that Cardiacs and Yes's Tales. Other non-prog: Echo and the Bunnymen's Ocean Rain is also a damned fine album of the sea.

The damage that we do is just so powerfully strong we call it love
The damage that we do just goes on and on and on but not long enough. --Robyn Hitchcock |
