On a serious note, we can have prog without sounds: it's called "songbook". If you write a 15 minutes song organised in 4 or 5 sections to be played in a 9/7 rhythm, arranged for guitars, drums, keyboards and bagpipes, but with no one to play it, you can have prog without sound. QED.

Back when it was cool to make a 25-minute long song that was actually 11 minutes long, followed by 13 minutes of silence and then a one-minute outro is evidence that the answer is yes.

Prog without sound? Isn't that the same as saying the space between notes?

Might be considered so, if it eventually becomes some manure that allows for some flowers to grow! My point has been for a long time that unplugging it, will tell you the answer that you seek. The best example, is how Rachel Flowers takes ELP's pieces and does them on piano and/or organ, and each piece stands up just fine. Listening to her piano rendition of "Tarkus" and other bits, stands out so strongly, that it allows you to find that the music was a lot more than just a hit song for the radio ... a heck of a lot more, DE. To me, this is the part missing. Even YES, is not getting the "classical" approach as much, although RW has been doing a lot of acoustic piano stuff these days, which allow you to see that the composition side of it is as progressive in music as anything that we consider ... but too many bands do not really make it, in this area, I DO NOT THINK, if they are unplugged, and this would be a very good test for them. Thus, it becomes a case of preference about each band and their music, and I doubt that the history of music for hundreds of years is really STRICTLY about the people's preferences at the time. Usually, a lot of people did not even understand the music a whole lot, and many "composers" suffered for it. Why, do we, keep repeating the same errors in discussing the music? PROGRESSIVE should NEVER be about the sound itself ... it should be about the music itself. It's what makes it incredible and valuable to your experience. The sound will be gone and lost tomorrow ...

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Yes, you can have prog without sound. Just stand there and not play your instrument for 20 minutes, which is very hard to do in odd time signatures.

Let alone the little fact that 2018 - 2008 = 10 years, and 15 posts a year.
