It's a long road we've been Travelling together all aboard our Magic Bus with a Caravan on tow and following the sign for Hatfield & the North on the Canterbury Scene trail (which isn't a Quantum Jump away from Jazz Rock/Fusion). Undoubtedly, there's been a whole Soft Heap of goodies to savour, but two outstanding golden Gong artists for me were Zopp & Zyma, who arrived by special Delivery right at the end of the trail, although they were well worth waiting for. I was left with Egg on my face though after giving Robert Wyatt's acclaimed Rock Bottom album a 2-star rating, Cos anyone with National Health specs can see it's worth more than that, especially bearing in mind Rock Bottom is right near the top of PA's Canterbury Scene chart at #2.

Both Zopp lps are wonderful .... heard them on you tube but will be ordering them soon.
But.....imho they are not better than the classic Canterbury lps by Hatfield and Nat Health.....they are as good as in some ways but imho they don't have that same vibe that the female singers (Parson, Gaskins ,et al and Sinclair) as well as the writing Stewart et al brought to Hatfield and others. But I 'm glad Zopp is emulating the older sounds.

Hi, I guess that comment might be a bit over the zopp somewhere, but I agree that both albums are excellent. Wonderful listens, regardless of it being Canterbury tea or bones! I think that is one of the most satisfying listens in some time. Very very nice!

ZYMA Finally, four years, 90+ artists and 300+ albums later, it's the last but not least Canterbury Scene artist, and what a great way to finish! Zyma are one of only two German Canterbury Scene bands, alongside Tortilla Flat. They may be at the end of the alphabet, but Zyma are leaders of the pack in terms of musical ability, but then again, we wouldn't expect anything less from the Germans. At this moment in time, I'd say Zopp's Dominion album is by far the best of the 300+ Canterbury Scene albums I've listened to in total over the last four years, but that all may change in a year's time once the novelty has worn off, in the same way as The Quest no longer comes Close to the Edge of being my favourite YES album two years on.
