^ I went for Time Out of Mind off of Gaucho which is not surprising since I have always had a homoerotic love of Michael Mcdonald's voice and it shines on that one..

and you have such great taste otherwise Ken.. one of virtual life's greatest myseteries to me... how one whose great tastes are only rivaled by mine can blank out on this..

1. Daddy Dont Live in that New York City No More
2. Pretzel Logic
3. Everyone's Gone to the Movies
4. King of the World
5. Bodhisattva
6. I Got the News
7. Time Out of Mind
8. Home at Last
9. Doctor Wu
10. Rikki Don't Lose that Number

Somehow forgot about the title track of Pretzel Logic while making my list.  It's maybe the archetypal Steely Dan track.  If you had to pick one to represent their oeuvre...the swing-y shuffle, the jazz keyboard to drive the song rather than guitar riffs, the beautiful, magical twists to lead to the chorus, the chord-bending solo, it's got everything you associate with the band.

f**king A man it really was..  and for all the virtuoso guitarists they employed in the studio..  the finest guitar solo perhaps?..  delivered by good old Walter Becker on that one.

Exactly.  I believe the second solo in Aja was also played by Becker?  At least in their 90s shows, it was he who was playing it.

I think it was... I made a lot of notes when I did my series of reviews of their albums when I added them to the site (which I sadly never finished).

I'd have to double check but I think he did..  he did famously give up the bass after Chuck Rainey bass-shamed him but he more than held his own with the best on the guitar.

On that note.. is there really a more underrated guitarist out there than Denny Dias.

1. King of the World
For the rest I am going to have to give it some thought.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Unfortunately I don't know their music well enough to make a top ten list.

I guess it would be like putting together a greatest hits long player:

SIDE 1
- Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer...)
- Show Biz Kids
- Any Major Dude...
- Black Friday
- Kid Charlemagne

SIDE 2
- Midnite Cruiser
- Reelin' in the Years
- Your Gold Teeth
- Sign In Stranger
- Doctor Wu
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....
