Been busy....family...Thanksgiving
These are my choices...nice list and a bit hard to choose but,

-Weedpecker – Molecule  (Never heard of them....really nice heavy alt psych rock feel to me, easy to get lost in it)

-The Screaming Trees – Halo of Ashes (reminds me of Echo and the Bunnymen....had to pick this one )

-Sly and the Family Stone – Family Affair (from an iconic American R&B/funk/soul album imho ...still sounds great today....some won't choose things they have heard before...not sure why , but for me this cried out to be picked.)

Also liked Dayvan Cowboy and War Suite

Top 4 picks from the playlist as follows:

1. Hank Dogs - Let Go - great song, been playing it over and over

2. Weedpecker - Molecule – loved the dreamy intro and as soon as the song evolved I knew this may be a favorite of the playlist. This one is super rich in sound

3. Boards of Canada – Dayvan Cowboy – again a nice dreamy entrance and evolving nicely

3. Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright and Anna McGarrigle - Mendocino - what a voice and beautiful harmony

I could not whittle these down to a top 3 but since I had to (for voting purposes) I have picked Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright and Anna McGarrigle - Mendocino - by a microparticle.

Just had one listen to all of these and it was a great listening session, but three rather immediately stood out for me... well, maybe four, but in the mood of the day, my three preferences are, in order of appearance:
- Boards of Canada – Dayvan Cowboy (I didn't look who suggested this one; maybe too straight forward for Christian and because of the cinematic quality I suspect it is Greg's suggestion. And it is this cinematic quality that I like - great track).
- Hood – The Cliff Edge Of Workaday Morality (Oh yes, this corresponds more to Christian's universe, but I can only say this after listening to all the other tracks of the playlist - definitely my kind of thing and I didn't know Hood so this is something new to explore).
- Gino Vannelli – The War Suite (More classic, 70s, orchestral pop-rock-prog, and/but this is something I really like, with some ELP influences... (JD?). A track clearly in different movements and very enjoyable)

I must say that I also very much liked the Hank Dogs track. I remember they were already suggested in one of these polls with a great song, so I really have to listen to the album because it is probably a "must buy". I very much liked how this track is using the flageolet guitar tones in the first part and at the end and combined with the vocal harmonies it could have ended on my podium...

My three choices are:

Jehnny Beth: She is an artist to watch. Only in her mid-thirties, she has had a long musical career, starting as one part of the French indie rock duo John & Jehn and continuing as the front woman of the English all female post-punk band Savages. For her debut solo album “To Love Is to Live” she again joined forces with Johnny Hostile. This album is rich in contrast and shows her diverse musical influences which makes me curious about things to come. She is a demanded artist in the international music scene for a reason (see numerous collabs).

The Neville Bros: I’m a huge fan of classy 70s r&b/funk/soul sounds and the Nevilles are great representatives of that genre. I do appreciate Sly & The Familiy Stone as well but since I have to choose I’ll go for the infectious flow and beat of the first.

Admirals Hard: These guys made me smile, a good reminder that music is there to be enjoyed! A folk band, specialising in sea shanties. They use traditional and modern instrumentation and give this genre a fresh contemporary touch. I also enjoyed The Hank Dogs, some really nice and elegant acoustic folk but again I had to choose so I let therefore the younger generation go first.

Among the not nominated suggestions my absolute favourites were Ian's Theo & Valentin Ceccaldi. You will always get my full attention with modern, avant-garde style jazz, and even more if it is an unusual instrumentation, played with virtuosity like here. A brilliant choice, thanks for sharing, Ian! 

Overall this was an enjoyable listening experience. So thank you all for the music! Sadly my young Cuban twins failed to find resonance here but that didn't discourage me, quite the opposite actually. I will keep introducing new and stylistically diverse artists.which is - at least how I see it - one of the purposes of these great interactive polls. Wink

Well, I don't think you should draw the conclusion that Ibeyi didn't find resonance here. I knew them because this song was a minor hit here and had quite some radio/tv play, and I guess most of us like what they convey (a lack of comments may make you think that your suggestion was not appreciated, but since only a few comment on all songs, this does not tell much how all was appreciated by everyone...). I like this song very much and saw a short live tv-show, 30 minutes or so, with them that was really wonderful, but they remain for me - so very subjectively - more a conventional pop act, despite their originality within this domain. Their clip is wonderful, though!

Indeed, I did have the twins on my listen-to-again-if-nominated first round.  When I went into 2nd/3rd listens to make decisions, the others just carried more weight for me.  What surprised me was that even though they are kind of a more modern pop sound, I enjoyed them so much, since most often, that doesn't speak much to me, hence, my final decisions.  The introduction by others of new-to-me artists is certainly a draw for me in these polls.

I had this Danish singer/band Katinka from the 'Emotional Songs By Female Singers' edition in mind when I chose Ibeyi. Katinka's and maybe a few other a bit poppy songs that appeared in previous polls gave me the impression that my twins might be a good option, esp. because they are quite original as Kees pointed out earlier. It's hard to tell how others saw them but the outcome speaks for itself, I guess. Ibeyi are based in France so I'm not surprised that Kees knew them. But since most people here are from overseas I thought that I could give it a go. My first choice were actually Flora Purim & Airto Moreira but they are relatively well-known so I didn't nominate them. But then again quite a few well-known artists appeared in the line-up which confused me. I  guess it will take some time to find out what you guys are into. I'm not someone who wants to please at any cost but I would like to bring something that might interest you. Smile

The known songs thing isn't something that everyone decides cannot be voted for, it's more of a personal choice.  It is entirely up to the individual what they want to bring.  The idea isn't really to win the most votes, but to share, at least how I see it.  And I have certainly loved several things you have brought to my attention.

I know that this is in the first place about sharing and discussing music. However the number of votes does indicate to some extent whether or not people are interested in a certain type of music. In my case nobody voted for my proposal, you see?
