^ I don't really like the album that much by the way, but I think a band like Dream Theater or Pain Of Salvation is much better fit for a Symphonic Prog fan to swallow. Symphony X is just far too Metal for most traditional Prog fan to swallow! Or maybe even some Porcupine Tree can easily fiit too! !

In Abstenia is a great album for any Prog Metal newbie to grab!

He say that it's a horrid album TO INTRODUCE TO A PROG FAN. I actually agree ... as a matter of fact all SyX albums are not ideal as an introduction to prog metal, unless one is already acquainted with metal and/or neoclassical stuff.

Well hey- I got my cousin into Sym X Big Time- They were the 2nd Prog Metal band he heard. (he had listened to DT before)

I think traditional Prog fans would have a BIGGER problem with Russell Allen, when I got my first Sym X album, I HATED IT!

Looking at my sig ... I would suggest the following albums:

  • Ayreon - The Human Equation
  • Dream Theater - Awake
  • Fantomas - Fantomas (since he likes Avant-Prog)
  • Ice Age - The Great Divide
  • Mr. Bungle - Disco Volante
  • Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element Pt. 1
  • Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
  • Psychotic Waltz - A Social Grace
  • Shadow Gallery - Room V
  • Sieges Even - The Art of Navigating by the Stars
  • Symphony X - V
  • Tool - Lateralus
  • Devin Townsend - Infinity

Like Rush and Geddy- it took me a LONG time to get used to the vocals of POS

I love POS now- so who knows- go for it!
