My curiosity for wierd music has grown alot since the last months and I was curious what recomendations can anyone of you give me about this types of music.
These are the albums I have from this two genres:
  • Frank Zappa - Hot Rats, we're only in it for the money, shaik yerbouty, apostrophe-overnite sensation
  • Guapo - 5 suns
  • Mr. Bungle - Disco volante, Mr. Bungle
  • Secret Chiefs 3 - Book of horizons
  • Taal - Skymind
  • Univers zero - Heresie
  • Fantomas - Director's cut, Delirium Cordia
I also heard some samples from Ahvak, Thinking plage, Neblenest, Soto, Djam karet  from the Cuneiform record's website.

Also, I found some good  kind of RIO band from Puerto Rico called "Astrid Proll". I have some conections with them and they are working on an album that's coming out sometime this February - March. There are some samples in their website  www.astridproll.com

Ok, bring on the recomendations

Thinking Plague is great - In Extremis is particularly recommended.

Get more Zappa:

  • Lumpy Gravy (similar to WOIIFTM)
  • Burnt Weeny Sandwich (This and Weasels Ripped my Fles are RIO must-haves)
  • Weasels Ripped My Flesh
  • Waka/Jawaka (this and Grand Wazzo are excellent jazz/fusion, similar to Hot Rats)
  • The Grand Wazoo
  • Roxy & Elsewhere (similar to Over-Nite and Apostrophe)
  • One Size Fits All (get this one along with Roxy & Elsewhere)
  • Studio Tan (RIO/Jazz/Classical, like a mix of Sheik Yerbouti and early FZ)
  • Joe's Garage (Similar to Sheik Yerbouti, but more complex)

RIO/AVANT/ZEUHL - The best thing you can get with yer pants on!
EXERIOR Experimental tech/death/progmetal from Norway!

If you liked the Guapo try Magma - Kohntarkosz, Koenjihyakkei - Angherr Shisspa, Ruins - Symphonica, Nebelnest - Nova express, Universal Totem Orchestra - Rituale Alieno and the siter band Miasma & The Carousel Of Headless Horses.
If you liked Univers Zero - Try the Ahvak and Sotos-Platypus, Art Zoyd - Phase IV and Present-Triskaidekaphobie & Le Posion Qui Rend Fou.
If you liked Bungle and Fantomas check out Idiot Flesh - Fancy and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Of Natural History.
If you liked Taal - Try Miriodor - Mekano or Parade, Hamster Theatre - Carnival Detournment and Rouge Ciel-s\t.

Of course you've got the classic bands from the RIO festival Henry Cow-Western Culture(+Art Bears - Hopes and Fears), Etron Fou Leloublan - Les 3 fous Perdegagnent - Au pays des... , Samla Mammas Manna - Maltid and Stormy Six- Macchina Maccheronica.
Also from the early years Debile Menthol - Emile au Jardin Patrologique.

Some modern RIO-followers - Thinking Plague - In extremis, U Totem - Strange Attractors, Absolute Zero - Crashing Icons, The Science Group - A mere Coincidence, Finnegans Wake - 4th, Fukkeduk - Orinthozozy.

And you've got to have some Zorn - try getting Naked City and 50th birthday celebrations vol. twelve(painkiller).

Try anything by John Zorn.I would start with his Naked City album.

Also check out Mike Keneally,a lot of his work is pretty Zappa-esque.
