Planet X is better for me, Virgil Donati and his double bass is awesome I think is one of the best drummers in the world.
I don't have lastfm sorry :)

Yup.  Although LTE disappointed from day one.  The couple Planet X albums I have are very good.

Just saw this... I said that because I really liked Derek's playing on Falling into Infinity by DT and thought that Planet X would be much more intriguing and that it would avoid DT's mistakes, but it does have some, like excessive and senseless complexity.

Anyway, I still prefer Planet X over DT instrumental (aka LTE) Wink

recently I re-audited the LTE debut in order to review it and I must say, though there are good parts, it disappoints; full of ghastly, simplistic pop stylings and filler.  Can't say that about any of the PX records, they're all a cut above.

None of them are exactly as good as I thought they would be, but I still prefer Planet X over Liquid Tension Experiment.

LTE is only a bunch of irritating guitar scales, their first album is a lot anoying.
Planet X is much better, a very good metal fusion band.

Well, I'm really glad to see so much support for LTE and very much deserved imo.

And it's funny because I used to dislike Planet X pretty much cause I didn't get the complex structures. I don't get it completely by now but better. In fact my enthusiasm for tough fusion is rising slowly but surely.

But it will never reach the level of fabulous LTE at least not for my taste.

A day without prog is a wasted day

And seriously, LTE made a song about water breaking in birth.... THEY HAVE NO EDGE. I''m sure it was a really heartfelt moment for whoever's wife happen to have a baby, but, please don't make a sappy cheese fest intro out of it. They don't even expand on the theme of the intro at all ... what followed was yet another 'adrenaline pumping' 15 minutes of instrumental hard rock.... really lame.

In the liner notes of LTE2, they just talk about how 'progressive' their sh*t is, how they're obligated to do an epic in order to be a '"real' progressive band' and how one of their sections should win the '''timing madness award' for 1999' just for using an alternating 5/8 6/8 pattern (whoop-de do! mindblowing!). I know they're joking mostly, but it does speak a little truth as to what direction they're going for: up their own a$ses. I'm just sad that they dragged good ol' Tony Levin into their project.

derrrrrr 'nuff said derrrrr!! uhhhh derrrrrrrrr end of story!!!

i love both bands, but LTE only have 2 albums, and Planet X has 3 (with more to come im sure)

the mood of both bands is astounding. recently ive been diggin Planet X and Sherinian's solo stuff, so i will have to go with Planet X.

btw the negative posts about Planet X on the first page of this thread (from 3 years ago!) are BS
