You'll be hard-pressed to find a bigger fan than myself but I agree when it comes to Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot.  Back in the day when an album cover was sometimes a huge factor in the decison of whether or not to give and unfamiliar band a try, these two covers appeared to be drawn and colored by a 12 year-old and may have deterred a lot of record buyers from discovering the incredible music inside.  Even the ghastly "Yes Album" looked more inviting to me IMHO.

I think they wanted something very simple, like the cover for The White Album.

Are you insane?

Its one of the best album covers ever made, in my opinion.

How? Nursery Cryme is a great cover. Foxtrot's cover is very extensive
(including the fact that Nursery Cryme is far in the backgroung.) Selling
England is a dipiction of the lawnmower in "I know what I like" and a
depiction of the theme of "Selling England" in general. The Lamb's cover is
about Rael obviously and very interesting. I don't know, just my opinion.

yes i quite enjoy Genesis' covers.

Me too.

the album cover of Foxtrot is gorgeous  as well as Nursery Cryme.

Trick of the Tail has a great cover too... trespass is cool, as for wind and wuthering... Im not sure... the bird/leaves tree thing is kinda... neat.. probably the weakest of the lot, but still nowhere near 'bad'

To Me The WORST cover is this one

I can-t understand why these boys decided for such a terrible cover.

Juicy Lucy's cover with Zelda Plum on it... ewww.

Not prog I know, but worthy of a mention nevertheless!

I'm trying to think of a bad prog cover... can't think of any.

I guess Aerosol Grey Machine maybe considered a bit uninspired, but the album was put out quickly, so it's understandable.

Close to the Edge could have been more creative, considering the imagination and creativity of the music, Roger Dean seemed preety uninspired.

I used to think Meddle was a crop field, that aliens "meddled" with and put crop circles into.

I still can't figure out Saucerful but I love it.

Worst would have to be Going For the One, what in the hell is a naked man doing on a Yes album cover?

As did I, though, I still don't see an ear.
