I vote for This Strange Engine(which I didnīt like in the beginning but now love). I did love Grendel in the beginning but now it feels too much rip off - still a great epic though.
I must say that itīs great listening to Marbles and see that the marillios still can make great songs(epics) like Neverland and The Invisible man. Iīm looking forward to their next release!

<<Shouldn't have listed Grendel there; now all the Fish era Marillion fans voted for it. Just kidding.>> Gotta be fair. Just so you and I know which is the better epic. E

Grendel's an epic surely?
Its also an epic plagiaristic (paen?) fusion of Epitaph by KC,Plague Of Lightkeepers by VDGG and Supper's Ready by Genesis. |
It may be borderline plagiaristic, but Grendel is far superior (IMO of course) to mentioned songs on all levels. Lyricaly it's a fabulous tale, and musically it's a marvelous 17 minutes ride.
I like This strange engine also, but Grendel is the ultimate Marillion epic.

No votes for "Lulu" yet? Bah, that must change. "Ocean Cloud" is great though; it was close.

A close rase between TSE, Grendel and The Invisible Man. I went w/ TIM.
I actually haven't heard Ocean Cloud yet, but I ordered the two disc version of Marbels the other day.

Neverland doesn't really feel like an epic to me. It's always been very intimate and personal. But it deserves every second of it's length.

I think I'm the one who made that remark, E-Dub. I made it because I put it next to Grendel as the best Marillion epic. I cannot choose between both. They are very different, but I love both to pieces. (I voted for Ocean Cloud because it's behind)

<<Is Neverland an epic? This is the 21st century?>> At around 11 - 12 minutes, I'd consider them epics. "Neverland" definitely. E

Whilst I agree that Invisible Man is not only the best epic off Marbles but the best epic of the entire Hogarth era, I still voted for Grendel. (Yes, I know it's derivitive of Genesis, but that's why I love it!)
Ocean Cloud is too long and doesn't hold my interest really.
Strange Engine is patchy and, again, too long for me.
I wonder if Easter could be included as a sort of mini-epic? That would be my third choice if it was there.

Grendel, for me. Regardless the influences.
Ocean Cloud and This Strange Engine are great as well.
Is Neverland an epic? This is the 21st century?
Marillion is not the greatest with epics. The band is good writing songs of about 10 minutes.
