Topic: Does Marillion have a large gay fanbase? Posted: September 03 2006 at 17:43 |

Indeed?
But are you as "pretty" as the hirsute, he-manly Herr Hogarth? Photos, please!
(Best not look, Mr/Ms unforgivable74! )

What a difference one little comma can make, eh boys & girls hermaphrodites?

I like it even out of context. The first time I heard it was on the EMI videos collection DVD. For the record I love Cover My Eyes too

<<Also, he is one of Steve Hogarth's primary champions. No matter what anyone else may think, he remains loyal. I applaud you for that E. >> Thanks, my friend. Marillion has become a passion for me, and I'll continue to defend it. Whether people think it's homoerotica or what, it's all subjective. People think what they want to think. As for the song, I've even heard die hard Marillion fans pan it. Definitely not their proggiest (not even close), but I do have to commend Hogarth on an exquisite vocal performance. I think that's why I enjoy it so much. E

Ivan, I'm a pretty conservative Christian guy; however, my view is I may not agree with it, but it's their right as long as they're not hurting anyone. Oh, I hate to say this, but my 3 1/2 year old daughter loves "Beautiful". She either wants to hear that song, or "Cover My Eyes". E

I may be a conservative straight white guy,
My case is the same but agravated because I was raised by a hardcore homophobic. machist, racist and anti-communist father, the first time a group of partners from the university came to study to my house (One was black, the other was gay - pretty obvious BTW- and we also had acommunist with a Che Guevara T-shirt a metal heads and 3 beautiful girls -he used to believe beautiful women should stay at home or participate in beauty contests-) my father almost died, he wondered if we were going to study or make an orgy LOL (Don't blame him, it's the way he was raised).
But neither my sister or me are hompohobic, we're both straight but managed to get rid of this medieval way of thinking (Except of the anti-communist part , but blame Shinnig Path for that, any action causes a reaction).
but I think I'm pretty good about exploring other forms of prog.
Me too, my first love iis obviously Symphonic, but love Folk, Fusion, Art Rock and even some Neo like Fish Marillion, Pendragon, etc.
I've liked symphonic and art rock a lot longer than neo prog...it just happens to be the primary focus because my favorite band happens to be a neo prog band. Look through my tower and you'll see classic Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, etc. Then you'll see Dream Theater and Ayreon in another section. It's all good.
Well Prog Metal has quite good bands but sadly Fream Threater represents all i don't like of the sub-genre and seems to exuist almost a perfect identity between Prog Metal and Dream Theater.

I was going for the similar spelling.
Here, for the record, it can rhyme with "maze" or "pause."
This one is likely full of Greek oil :
So tell me, what's a Grecian earn, anyway?

After watching Led Zeppelin (especially Plant) "The Song Remains The Same" one could ask if Zep have a large gay fanbase!

<< Become a convert and cross over from Symphonic? E-Dub, you have much to learn of my loyalties. I love all music, but some just bores me sometimes! Ivan, you make good points. Some I can't quite understand, but some are valid. The last statement, for example, is a valid one; however, the difference is now (as adults) we know what the proper parameters are. I wasn't offended (although the title of this thread raised an eyebrow at first). Just wondering where it was all going. Hogarth has been happily married to the same woman for quite some time. Maybe he tried to push the envelope...to get us all talking. Maybe he succeeded. It's all good, Ivan. E

Actually, "Beautiful" is one of my favorite tracks from the amazing Afraid Of Sunlight. Listen to the message because it's really quite inspiring and probably one from which we all could benefit (as we're on a thread about stereotypes and generalizations).
The problem is not the video, for God's sake, Peter Gabriel used to run through a stage in a flower outfit, Freddie Queen made a video for "I want to break Free" (Roger Taylor even looked as a cute girl ), Jon Anderson has some weird movements and nobody says a word because the music is great, in this case Marillion seems to be following the path of their mentors Genesis.
Freddie was gay, that's a fact, everyone of us knows that fact and we don't have the slightest problem with his music or videos, as a fact I was the first one to correct an ex-member who said Queen was crap because the guy was gay (Of course he used the word qr) and I doidn't hesitate to call him an idiot with stupid prejudices and an homophobic.
But to deny Beautiful is a suspicious video is being blind, he tried to be controversial, most people here is just mentioning that.
If you like the message, but still can't stomach "Beautiful", then go listen to "A Few Words For The Dead". Essentially says the same thing, but a bit more progressive.
Nah, didn't liked it either.
Honestly, I can't believe a list made up of adults (I'm assuming we're [at least] in the majority) are even discussing this.
Why? Adults are just kids that growed up, we are just having a bit of fan without being offensive.
