Topic: Children of bodom Posted: September 05 2006 at 17:33 |
This is not a progressive group, but I like it very much. They play death metal (I`m not much deathmetal fan, but this group is on higher quality level than most other death metal bands)mixed with speed metal passages , sometimes trash metal riffs and the guitar solos are sometimes like from classical music. Leader of the group, lead guitarist and 'singer' is ALexei Laiho and he is also known for his strange technique in guitarplay. My favourite songs: Everytime I die, Lake Bodom, Children of bodom, Downfall, Sixpounder,Needled 24/7

^ I quite enjoy this band eventhough they repeat themselves in every album...
My favourite album is Hatebreeder back in 1998 (if I remember well)
pretty unique style, mixing extreme and melodic elements... nice

This is one of the bands that got me onto the whole prog scene. People
usually call them melodic progressive death metal. I think they have
some prog elements eg the whole guitar then keyboard solos, lots of
keyboards, etc.. what do you think? Would you call them prog?

I wouldn't remotely call them prog, and I like their older albums a lot (up to Hatebreeder). Their latest efforts arent nearly as good IMO, and in fact I just saw them live a few weeks ago and was rather disappointed. Amon Amarth and Gojira were the openers and they blew COB out of the water.

Probably one of the bands I hate the most.
I have nicknames for their lead man who I also think is one of the biggest pricks ever.
And for the record, no, not even remotely progressive.

I wouldn't exactly call it death metal, to me it's more like power metal with death metal vocals.
And even if you don't like them, you have to admit, their cover of "Oops I Did It Again" is hilarious.

Their cover of Europe's 'Final Countdown' is even better. It actually sounds like melodic black metal, not that crap COB normally plays.

Actually, they never covered that song. Another band did, and it got credited to COB.

They are sort of a guilty pleasure of mind. The "metal elite" hate them, but I think they are fun and write some quality material. Sadly their later efforts are taking a step down quality wise.

I really like their music but the lyrics are kinda dumb and repetitive.
