 Topic: Van der Graaf Generator line-up in 2007 tour

everybody knows about this... but I just can't imagine how they will look live in concerts without David Jackson as trio: Hammill, Banton and Evans. In such line-up they are going to tour in 2007, yes? do you think the performance in general wont suffer becouse of that?

Jaxon isn't showing up in the reunion, so what else than Hammill, Banton and Evans are we to talk off?
oh, maybe Gordon too, he's in good relations with Hammill.
but maybe the material won't be of a violin specific role.
Jaxon not rejoicing is a sad news, overall, but I myself only expect Van Der Graaf Generator to keep sounding again.

for its very sad because I know that I will not be able to see them fure sure, they will never come to israel...

first of all, i would like to say hi to all the members and congratulate you for this great site, i just joined today and hope to contribute and receive a lot of information about this absolutely fabulous genre.
I think that the Jackson's absence is dramatic to the truly sound of VDGG...however, anyone who has the chance to go to their shows must do it! I am from Colombia, so you know...i don't have the slightest chance to see anybody...

sure it won't be the same, as each of them contribute something unique to their sound, the thing is, what if we have preconcieved ideas about what we WANT them to sound like, well.. it sounds almost like a request to hear your favourite reocds played live- where is the adventure in that?
just as jazz musicians can play with others and bring different magic in different configurations, who says this particular line-up won't do its own thing? shall we keep our eyes closed and ears wide open says i....

Maybe they'll hook up with another great player. I cerainly wouldn't mind VdGG with Mel Collins, for example.

Exactly, perhaps Eddie Jobson or Mark Wood.
If there was a personality class with David and the other members, better to have the other 3 getting along and doing more touring/releasing recordings, than doing nothing.
I will check this site regularly to see if the are playing a vicinity nearby where I live, so I don't am able to get tickets before they sell out

I saw them when they last played and they were outstanding!

the main point was that I can't imagine VdGG without saxophone and flute! Its like Jethro Tull without flute... As I understood no one wil repalce Jackson.

i'm going to try to see them in Poloand, because they wont tour in my country... but thats the fact that I'm afraid of and I dont wont to be very disappointed after that:)

I really don't think that VDGG would be touring if they weren't confident of putting on a great show, yes their sound will be different due to the lack of sax but that should make everything more interesting.

"Aerosol" did have flute.. Chap called Jeff Peach.
"Quiet Zone" had no flutes or sax and was a fantastic album.
I will let you folk know how it went on , and also what their new songs are like.

I don't say that Jackson is irreplaceable, I say that sax and flut is.

That's the point -- the debut album doesn't sound like an album with a sax (as the "classic" VdGG albums do).

well, I am going to see them in Poland (the tickets for my chosen venue are not available yet, but I keep thumb on a pulse). Of course I will be missing Jaxon (my number 2 in VDGG) but those of you who saw Peter Hammill live or even on video know that he is awesome playing VDGG material with only his piano. And we are going to see TWO such brilliant musicians with him. If you want to hear studio sound, which is grand nevertheless, just listen to studio albums. VDGG studio sound is impossible to emulate on stage, imagine Jaxon playing flute and sax at the same time and two Peters Hammills singing!!

I think reading between the lines of PH's last newsletter that he got
very pissed off with Jaxon, something to do with jaxon talking to the
press and crappy classic-rock rip off DVDs is what I heard.
I am sure they can fill the void left by jaxon easily. Lets face it,
Hugh Banton doesn't have much to do; he only plays the keyboards with
his hands and bass with his feet. He could easily play sax as well.
I can't wait to see them as a trio and already have tickets for Cambridge, wolverhampton, liverpool, leicester and Barbican.
Long live the generator yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee
