It is a masterpiece of prog but you can't really say it's the "ultimate" prog song. It's different for everybody. Supper's Ready blows it away for me.

Me too... last night, the QPR DVD show (downloaded)
Certainly the greatest Yes song ever and possibly oen of the three greatest in prog period, with "Lizard" and "Supper's ready"

I disagree; I think determining an ultimate prog song is easier than you think. It doesn't mean "single greatest," it means (if we're using the language correctly) something more like "single greatest example." Of course, there's still plenty of wiggle room, but I'd give that title to something like 21st Century Schizoid Man.

The Gates of Delerium is both a super masterpiece of prog rock and Yes's best song
ever. There are so many incredible intense instrumental moments and beautiful vocal
parts, that after you listen to it , you are left with two words.
YES and WOW!

"Gates of Delirium" is very good, but it's not my favourite Yes song.
I think the epics from Fragile ("Roundabout", "South Side of the Sky" and "Heart of the Sunrise") are more focused and because of that I like them more than "Gates of Delirium".

It's certainly is a masterpiece of prog IMO.
I love it; but not sure if it's the best Yes song or not.
Some will say it is, others won't. Depends on taste.
My favourite Yes track is the beautiful 'Turn Of The Century' and my fave epic is 'Awaken.'
'Gates' is probably my second favourite Yes epic.

It's a nice prog song.
The melody a few minutes in is great and Soon is amazing, but other than that it's a whole lot of crazy noodling underneath great melodies.

Its one of the best prog tracks ever and well up there with the likes of Suppers Ready,Karn Evil 9,Tarkus,Thick As A Brick,Ritual,Close To The Edge etc.
I'm not sure why it should be considered the 'ultimate' prog track though? Some of it sounds like a 'jam session' that got out of control although it does have a wonderful ending that adds maybe an extra touch of class.
