You are not even well informed, Tony; first of all I usually mention a 45 minute drum solo, and second it was not by Moerlen but by Vander. Unlike the Peart fans I am not a broken record that is stuck and goes repeating "Peart...Peart...Peart" all the time; on the contrary, I have given my acknowledgements to numerous drummers again and again. It is just typically of Peart fans that they react like spoiled little brats when one does not join in their chorus. And when one repays them a bit they react like little kids who have been stolen their facourite toy.
Sorry, I accidentially hit the pick-up of your record player. I will put it on again.
"Peart...Peart...Peart".
I voted for Palmer......

"Wait a moment. You are not speaking of the out-and-out Rush fan Tony Riviere, are you?"
"I am!"
"That sounds very alarming indeed; I will send an ambulance immediately. Please stay close to him and try to resuscitate him by playing Rush records to him".

Out and out Porcupine Tree fan actually...Shocked

But this isnt the place to mention off-topic drummers like Gavin Harrison...

I will edit the drum solo of Pierre Moerlen out of the Knebworth live DVD of Mike Oldfield, upload it and post the link here, so you will all have a direct comparison to Peart.

I'm not a drummer... unless you count air drums and I'm frickin good at that..

Palmer is far more interesing for me to listen to .... and his work on Toccata.. drumming and his creative input into bringing a monster of a work like Ginastera's piano  concerto to life,  put him above anything Peart did in terms of prog music. Not just an walking drum solo highlight.. but a prog musician.

as an ELP fan I voted for......PeartShocked

Peart stylistically is the most balanced drummer in prog.He has Brufords control but can work up Palmer's animal like intensity when the mood takes him.Supreme drummer for me.I always vote for Peart in drumming polls despite my ELP allegiance.

Is it just me, or sometimes we just get so off-topic in polls? I mean, there are just two options here.... I know there are better drummers that these two, at least for my taste... but if the poll only has two options to choose from, and not a third one saying "other", why is it so difficult to vote for either one or the other? Peart or Palmer? The poll's name is not "best drummer ever", but Palmer vs Peart.... Now, I may be so out of this world by saying this, but if the question is A vs B, Choose between A or B, how come many people vote C?????

Anyway, I vote for Terry Bozzio.

Yawn. Another drum poll where none of my canditates gets the vote. Moerlen would have drummed circles around them, wrapped them up in aluminium foil, put them on the ends of his drumsticks and thus have given them a close experience what drumming is really about.

You've just given me a great idea! How about a facility where you can make an automatic response depending on the topic? If the topic mentions drumming you could just press a button and..........Wink

I would, but it is not necessary; the Peart fans already invented it. Wink

if I had to share royalties from the idea with all the Peart fans,I'd only get a one billionth share...LOL

Anyway, isnt it time for you to mention that 30 minute drum solo....?Tongue

Re : this poll - I thought the proposition was a person's preference between two percussioners whose last name starts with P. Oh well, some petty people will get P.O.d over polls. LOL . Mind you, I've always found an intriguing way of saving myself time & frustration when it comes to polls or lounges listed herein - I don't bother with them. Then with the time I've saved, I can think up my own limited choice polls to irritate people with unlimited time to spend explaining why they hate such polls. I guess it's how you bait the hook ...

It's not that i don't understand your point; it's that I don't agree with it Tongue or is it that I do understate your point but not you, or that I Allstate your paint, mutt not fool ... anyway my point is a period . not a comma , don't mind me I'm in a semi-colon ;}

Where can I find this 45 minute solo?  Vander is incredible, and I wanna hear (or better still, see) this!

My vote goes to Peart.  As much as I enjoy Palmer, and as much as I dislike the blind Peart fans, I think Neil deserves this.  However, there's still drummers out there better then Peart.

In fact, Peart isn't an official member of the group.  He's just sitting in for a while until John Rutsey comes back.
