I've never heard any of these besides TSE and that was soo long ago 9it bored me to hell but I was much younger) so I'd like to know what do you think of these rather disliked albums.

Gotta say, though, not one of these would I rate under 2.5 stars.

I didn't particularly enjoy any of them, but This Strange Engine has a couple of nice songs on it.

Anoraknophobia for me. Title track from TSE, however, is one of Marillion's greatest songs from either era.

Anoraknophobia not only gets my vote here, it is in my top five Marillion albums, full stop!
A great album!
Second would be This Strange Engine, which is actually quite good, apart from the tedious Memory Of Water, and the awful Hope For The Future.

Anoraknophobia is the best of these bunch and one of the best Hogarth era albums in general if you ask me.

Totally agree! I read a review recently that was just so far off the mark. Sonically, it's one of their very best. All the songs are brilliant, with the exception of "Fruit Of The Wild Rose". I can't quite get into that one. Not nearly enough to turn me away from it. E |

Fruit of the Wild Rose is my least favorite as well. All of the longer tracks on the album are spectacular, though, and are some of my favorite Hogarth era songs (especially 21st Century and When I Meet God). |

Yup, folks. "Anoraknophobia" it is. Too bad there must be people finding it on record stores and thinking it must be some kind of South Park soundtrack due to the cover

21st Century is absolutely sublime. And the lyrics are some of the finest Hogarth has ever penned: This is the 21st century Flash to crash and burn Nobody's gonna give you anything For nothing in return There's a man up in a mirrored building And he just bought the world Would you want To have kids Growing up Into what's left of this? She shook her head, She said "Can't you see? The world is you The world is me." The song I normally see get lambasted is "If My Heart Were A Ball, It Would Roll Uphill". I think it fits in with Anoraknophobia quite nicely...and the two live versions from Anorak In The UK and Smoke are just on fire. E |

Sorry to disagree with you all, but This Strange Engine is leagues ahead of Anoraknaphobia! I just can't get into Anorak, it seemed boring - nothing really stood out. Radiation has the superb "Answering Machine", "Three-Minute Boy (Marillion's 'Hey Jude')", and "Cathedral Wall", but overall it's a fairly bland album. marillion.com contains one of my favorite songs by the band in "Go!", and has some great rock numbers, but nothing really powerful.
This Strange Engine has the great opener, "A Man Of A Thousand Faces" and closer, "This Strange Engine." The only mediocre song is "Memory Of Water" - otherwise, it's an excellent album. "Hope For The Future" is so fun!

I'd be a bit of a loner around here (and in fancircles) but I've chosen Radiation (only just managed to beat Marillion.com to it). These two albums sound the most interesting of all these to my ears (and NO, I'M NOT DEAF! )

Voted for Marillion.com, partially due to the strong song, 'Interior Lulu'... |

Each to their own, of course, but...fun? Good God man! It has to be the worst song Marillion ever wrote!
And Radiation has only one strong song, and that is the closer, 'A Few Words For The Dead'.
Now, if that was put onto This Strange Engine in place of 'Memory Of Water' and 'Hope For The Future', then This Strange Engine would be a more than decent album!
As E-Dub said, Anoraknophobia is sonically one of Marillion's best efforts. And the songs are all very strong and cohesive.
But of course, that is all only my opinion.
