^Fourth and Fifth, as well as Third, Six and Seven, got re-released yesterday.
I got the Third remaster yesterday and it was a definite improvement sonically over the other CDs I had. Definitely less distorted sounding, to my ears at least (there are always some with these remastered CDs who go on about how 'the older version was better, warmer and closer to the original vinyl...'), with greater clarity.

Facelift, one of my favorite albums you simply never get tierd of this briliant album. I bought 1-2 put on 1 CD some weeks ago and i like it alot it sounds like a totoaly difrent band yes but its very good psycadelic jazz stuff. 4-5 i cant find anywhere right now but i have seen it will come a new remaster soon i gues i have to wait.. I i allso bought Grides some time ago, very recomended if your intrested in some live soft machine and the 20min of some filmed concert aperence was a blast!

to Raff's awesome review. Never a favorite of mine... but it
wasn't bad at all.

I can't choose one. All are great! I love to listen to this album when driving my car.

YES, Phileas, but that's NOT, NOT fusion; that's ''third'' of Soft Machine, a unique adventure. A few albums later, SF will play fusion with Karl Jenkins on board ( listen to the wonderful album ''softs'' from 1976)

^I'm used to things that are difficult to get into, most of what I
listen to is. After hearing their first, I wasn't too keen on checking
out more, but I will let you know what I think of Third! There
shouldn't be any problems, since I really like Fusion, and I have been
told Third is very jazzy.

I did hear the first Soft Machine album, but I didn't like it ("badly produced psychedelia with a little jazziness jamming away in no particular direction" is the impression I got from it). I'm convinced I ought to like Third though, so I'm going to give it a try in a not too distant future (hopefully). Read my post on this thread; hopefully, you enjoy the album but that's not definitely easy listening , especially starting with ''facelift'' as side 1, As a young boy in 1971 (14 years old then)friends and me were listening to ''atom heart mother'' followed by ''slightly all the time '' and ''moon in june''. what a trip!!!! let me know what you think of it!

Facelift. Organ...ehm...solo?!? is pure madness. And brass part is awesome, too.

Have to review this one fairly soon...my fave is 'Out Bloody Rageous', perhaps the best realisation of the band's fusion of jazz and the avant garde, imho.
I think the main thing which makes this a hard-going album to listen to is the awful sound of the CD. It's muffled in the extreme- I really hope the reissue improves that.

There's a new version of it reviewed in this month's Mojo, apparently it comes with a bonus disc of their Proms performance. Doesn't say if it sounds any better tho'.
