Keith Emerson - Quel hottie! Also rather enjoyable to listen to. As is Mr Banks. As is Mr Wakeman. O, I know, it's mainstream (for prog..) but with reason.
But personally, I am above all this keyboardist favouritism. Let us just be grateful for all of the keyboardists who grace the earth, and the joy they bring.
Amen!

I think Emmerson would be the best if he were a better composer, but for now lets just leave it at wakeman. Although my personal favourite is tony banks.

I went with Wakeman but its more because I like the music he plays than the best out there. Emerson turned me off to many times and I prefer Wakeman's piano playing to Keith. Kerry Minnear is a good chioce too. If we are counting Chick Corea as prog I would take him over all them.

I chose Richard Wright. Yes, he's less "technical", but he is an excellent artist.

This has to the first poll where the 'Other' choice is winning. Great to see that Tony Banks can still win a poll even though he isn't listed. :)
So many top people were left out of this poll I'm wondering if it were worth holding. Just as well you are not doing another poll for a 'looooooooooong time! :)
Missing keyboardists: Tony Banks, Eddie Jobson, Kerry Minnear, Rod Argent, and Chick Corea.

It is kind of funny seeing the alternative "other" winning a poll. Even if it is impossible to the list all the great keyboardplayers in progmusic I guess leaving out Tony Banks will haunt you forever!
I voted for him too!

1. Tony Banks - The Mastermind behind the genius of Genesis
2. Jordan Rudess - You gotta love that technique and composing complexity
3. Rick Wakeman - Hes amazing, ain't he?
4. Keith Emerson - I am very fond of this guy because I would say that I am very influenced by him in my playing (I'm a keyboardist aswel). I guess the reason I like the others Ive mentioned so much is because their style is very different than mine... Keith Emerson's is more similar to mine, so it frustrates me to listen to his work, makes me realise how much I have left to improve....

I voted for Emerson, but as others have already said there are some glaring omissions in the list (as it always happens, BTW). Where is the mighty Dave Stewart, or the sadly missed Peter Bardens?

There are many fine keyboardists, but my favourite remains Wakeman. A breadth of work from the likes of "Space Odditty", to arrnaigin Cat Stevens version of "Morning Has Broken" to the Strawbs, his excellent work with Yes, and some fine (early) solo stuff. He's still a great player - witness his lates, Retro - and arranger, if not always such a hot composer.
