Nine Inch Nails is one of my favorite non prog group. The music is pretty unique and original. I'd like to hear about other similar groups, do you know of any?

don't know about similar groups, but I really dig NIN (although I thought With Teeth was really disappointing).
I've heard 2 tracks from their upcoming album and they sound very promising. Supposedly the tracks have been leaked in very strange ways. I heard the most recent track was found on a USB jump drive in a bathroom in portugal. WTF? |

Try Ministry. They have been around since the eighties (like NIN) and have a heavy industial feel. Al Jourgensen has collabed with many people in the genre and is well respected. My fav album is Psalm 69, very dark and heavy. But you may want to question that disc because I feel I'm in the minority on that. Other albums like A MInd is A Terrible Thing To Taste is also popular.

I love NIN,and consider The Downward Spiral one of the best albums of the 90's.
Try Ministry, but Vast shouldn't be overlooked.Vast is a one-man project of musician Jon Crosby.Check out Vast's album Music for People. Edited by TheProgtologist - February 25 2007 at 07:03 |

Yeah, VAST's Music for People is a darn good album. I didn't really enjoy any of his other stuff though. |

I don't think there is anyone similar- that's what makes them so unique and awesome.

I think Foetus did slightly similar things back in the 80s. Maybe it's just me but I hear some of their influences in NIN's music.

Another for Ministry
Skinny Puppy was another industrial band that some hold in high regard. |

Reznor is a mad genius and what he does with studio sound manipulation in creating unique but cohesive songs is amazing. I can only take him every couple of months or so because the music is so intense but his influence in modern progressive rock is very evident in a very good way. I especially notice that Steven Wilson utilizes some of NIN's techniques without sounding like he's copying them.

If you're fond of 80s' electro, I recommend to start with their first, Pretty Hate Machine Otherwise, The Downward Spiral is also a good start

the new stuff is really promising. I've heard all 4 of the leaked songs from the new album (hey, if the band leaks it themselves by putting them in random bathrooms, its legal!)
It's a whole lot better than With Teeth. I am pumped. check out yearzero.nin.com and http://symphonyofnoise.com/nails/yearzero/ for the tracks and the propaganda websites with info about the album... ![]() |

Steven Wilson says that NINs double cd Futile is his greatest influence for heavy fiff production and ambitios atmosphere in music.

Some albums worth hearing for people into NIN:
Coil - Horse Rotorvator Ministry - The Land of Rape and Honey Vampire Rodents - Lullaby Land Foetus has certain parallels with NIN but I find his song-writing shallow in comparison |

I listened to a lot of Nine Inch Nails in college during a time when I was really into running. Great music to jog to.
