In light of the recent "changing of the guard" with sebtp passing ctte on the pa top albums, I ask: Should it have? Or is ctte the true champion. As for my opinion, i believe both are 5 star albums, but that ctte has something that sebtp does not. Comments please.

One of these polls springs up every time that happens...
To tell the truth, I don't think either belong anywhere near the prog top 50, especially not SEBTP (CTTE does come somewhat close). But I won't vote because this thread is redundant (I'll admit it, I started my own once, way back when... but I've learned since then -- or maybe the two weeks in prison with mad axe murderers reformed me...) |

I don't know how an album like SEBTP can carry 5 stars and compared to.CTTE
With songs like ''I know what i like'', ''more fool me'' or the disastrous ''battle of Epping..''
with the riidiculous part ''picnic... picnic'' , its 'half of the album that stinks.
The other half is great, but a half doesn't make 5 stars
This is not liking an album, it's pure idolatry or fanaticism by Genesis fans.

Selling England by the Pound, no contest.
CTTE is brilliant as well, but not nearly as great as SEBTP.

Not being a Yes fan, I did listen to the album. Not my favorite. Selling gets my vote.

SEBTP is good, but I couldn't really get into it like I could with CTTE.

This poll means no more than: 'Which of these two is your favourite band?' And here we go again! Some people cannot stand Jon Anderson's voice. Others will think Howe is a more imaginative guitarist than Hackett. Yet others will prefer Tony Banks' keyboard solos to Rick Wakeman's. There may even be some blessed souls who think "More fool me" tips the balance in favour of Genesis!
Well I REFUSE to vote. In my opinion both of these are gorgeous albums. I simply don't see the point of questionnaires like: "Who's greater - Bach or Handel?" I've got no problem loving both - and quite a few others besides! |

I agree.
But Its not a genesis versus Yes Poll. Not for me anyway. I voted SEBTP, but Yes are my prefered band. If it had come up against Relayer I would have voted for that.

While Selling England is a great album, Close to the edge is the perfection made music so, no competition here...

By which criteria? Don't forget that SELLING ENGLAND contains AT LEAST 15 minutes more music than CTTE! |
