Marillion interview in today's London Tim

So he thought the new album was great... Well, frankly, to me it sounded like they were sleeping when they recorded it. Maybe it's because I was expecting to hear some bloated and bombastic prog rock... or maybe not.

It wasn't my favourite Marillion album either (I liked some of it though), but I am so glad they got in the charts with it and got mostly positive reviews. The ultimate 'two finger salute' to the youth/credibility obsessed music industry.

What Stephen Dalton highlights are musical parallels in his article:

In case you feel like explaining Mr. Dalton where he went of, send him some pictures of old and new Marillion, and have him compare those to what can be found here.

I also read that article and was a bit annoyed at it. The bashing of prog was unnecessary. Can't say anything about the album cause I've only heard Misplaced Childhood.

The new album really is a grower. I felt the same way when I first heard it, but 6 or so listens on and I'm really liking it.

I think this is why some listeners may be disappointed. It really isn't like Marbles, save maybe the title track. The band did say that they were going to go in a completely different direction, though and they did.

As for the real topic at hand, I think this is a perfect example of why I don't often bother with the mainstream media anymore, too many lies and distortions. I find it extremely distressing that such media heavily influences people's opinions.

I'm glad that Marillion are getting some good reviews, though. Perhaps more people will be encouraged to explore their wonderful music.
