the uk version has 5 tracks on the back of the case but has been split into 12 tracks for some reason. pissed me off as a fellow progger!

if you copy or play the album on windows media player it ses the tracklist is as follows (i am not writing out the full track names so i will abresviate)

1. cyngus part a
2. cygnus part b
3. cygnus part c
4. cygnus part d
5. the widow
6. lvia
7. miranda part a
8. miranda part b
9. miranda part c
10. miranda part d
11. cassandra part 1
12. cassandra part 2

THIS TRACKLIST IS INCORRECT. I HAVE WORKED OUT THE REAL TRACKLIST. CHANGE IT ON YOUR MEDIA PLAYER BY EDITTING THE TRACK NAME IF YOUR VERSION IS INCORRECT...

1. cygnus
2. the widow
3. lvia
4. miranda
5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12: cassandra. i have no idea why it is this many tracks long as the suite only has 5 parts!!!

THIS IS THE CORRECT TRACKLIST. thank you, hope that avoids confusion.
any other problems? reply here or PM me. i know all!

The reason it has the extra tracks is apparently related to the record company being tricky about not paying them for a full length album because it had only 5 tracks on it, and so technically only qualifies as an EP. I assume that's more to do with the US though. Any idea when the "decoder" record's coming out?

That's such bullsh*t.  Record companies can suck my cock.  An album is deterimined by *length*.  Or could some grindcore band release a 20-track album that comes out to ten minutes and all it a full release?

its confusing cos lots of prog albums has 5 tracks. yes have 3 track albums! godspeed only ever have a few tracks! insanity! bet the band were pissed! i was but the music is so damn good that i will let it go.

the decoder is being released on the single of the widow on march 14th in the UK (ONLY AVAILABLE FOR ONE WEEK), go on www.thecomatorium.com for more info on release dates. i found it on the forum but prolly on the homepage too. i think US and japan might get different releases

I would've said that music is art and record companies are sh*t, but there you go.

Thank you... so more importantly, now i hope the tracklist confusion is gone...

what do you think of the album???

my opinion... a 77 minute long orgasm... one of the BEST things i have ever heard, different to their debut which i would rate a 10/10 masterpiece and one of the best albums ive ever heard. This one is different and perhaps better because they managed to make a follow up that is TRUELY INCREDIBLE, i never thought they wud be able to better deloused but my god this is insanely good.

What is the deal with the decoder? I keep hearing about it, but have no clue what it does.

Frenchie to the rescue!

the lyrics are printed underneath where the disc is held, this track is called the decoder because it is meant to help you understand the main concept of all the other lyrics on the main album. The title track that never made the album hehe, The Mars Volta are always full of ideas, i hope you guys can track this down, i'm guessing it will come with The Widow single but if you miss out on it then i'm sure you can find an mp3 of it.

Actually, the Decoder was released as a single earlier in February, I believe, as a seperate single from the Widow.  And for those who are hoping that the decoder "decodes" the album, a lot of the actual song is still up in the air at this point as to what it means.

well i have read the lyrics to the decoder (located under where the disc is held on FTM cd case) and it didnt decode a thing for me, tho i havent looked up on this lyrics.

i remember reading a 113 page explanation of their first album! their lyrics are so complex, best lyricists ive ever experienced.

I agree. and since you have the album, I guess I'll ask you.  Does John's drumwork hold up to the standard he set for himself on De-Loused (Important to me, as I am a drummer)?

the drum work is no better no worse. it is very different. deloused was... insane in a frantic energetic way, full of speedy drumwork which i found incredible, he is one of the best drummers ive ever heard. their band is so strong.

this album is more subtle. it has elements of the speedy insaneness of their debut yet it is more based around mellower techniques, percussion. the drumming is a lot more experimental, there is an incredible latin track which has spanish style drumming, john really expresses how much range he has as a drummer but the drums are more subtle here, in deloused the drumming was really noticeable and in your face with its amazingness, here you have to find the beauty in his drummer rather than letting it find you.
