Devin's lucky, he's got two entrys! I picked Strapping Young Lad because of their intelligent ferocity and occasional sense of humor but primarily that's the band I've played the most of in the last month. My second choice is Voivod. Those guys have a lot of variety and weren't afraid to take chances.

Cult of Luna is delicious, they are part of the new eclectic form of post metalm, very definable!
I still need some Ulver.

I'm not really fan of those bands, maybe Voivod tells me anything, the rest i know some of their works, but not appeal to me very much. So Voivod is my vote.

I agree with you in that, I think new metal direction tends to be unconsistant and predominantely like you said...

^ ^^ the poll says nothing about being limiting current releases or about being Progressive Metal - if you like Ulver, then pick Ulver I say.
Blood Inside is a Metal album, it's electronic, experimental and progressive but still metal (and its even got guitars!)

Ulver would be my pick, but their metal albums do very little for me, whereas I find their recent direction fascinating. As Selkie pointed out, it feels inappropriate to pick them when this seems to be a poll about metal.
I suppose it's Neurosis then, although I've only heard one of their albums.
