This is a band that urgantly needs to pull a creative Rabbit out their hat and release a great CD ... doing a covers CD is the last thing they should be thinking about doing IMHO (though it will go down well at the state fair)

^Agree too. Although would be interesting to hear those songs from Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, U2 and The Police in a Queensryche style. I just hope this isn't going to be just another weak album to add to their recent career.

for a second I thought this thread was entitled 'A cover full of albums' - like in a box compilation.
Can't say I like this idea, but I moved on after Empire anyway.... Edited by Angelo - August 29 2007 at 17:55 |

I enjoyed Tribe and OMII, but this is testing my patience a little. As Yorkie said, these guys need to be focusing on winning back fans (critics have actually stayed with them for the most part) before they indulge. Mindcrime at the Moore was a good step in showing how well the new stuff fits with the old, and they could have capitalized on it. Sill, it might be interesting to hear some of these.

You guys definitely need to relisten to Promised Land, such a great album (their most artsy and moody, beautiful piece of work really!!!) It went downhill (and what a drop!!!) with Hear in the Now Frontier, followed by Q2K (), picked it up for Tribe and Mindcrime II.
Seriously, do yourself a favor and rediscover Promised Land.

^ Agreed 100% ... from a prog perspective Promised Land is their most interesting album by far. You simply cannot judge this band's prog status if you haven't heard this album.

^^^Careful now - I never said Queensryche isn't prog, but I did move away after Empire.
Last year I bought Mindcrime II and I only played it 4 or 5 times, it simply doesn't have the magic of the original, nor the power of songs like Road to Madness... I'll give Promised Land a chance if you say so, though. |

All in due time, Mike I have to get through a stack of Collegium Musicum, Herbie Hancock and Julverne first....
EDIT: Hehe, I just saw the track listing. At least they don't get up at 6:00am, like Dream Theater did on Awake:

I've had Operation Mindcrime II playing in my car for the last two weeks (which means I've listened to it about 4 or 5 times in a row). It is "classic" Queensryche. It is an excellent album by them. Like many people here, the original Mindcrime and Empire are my favorites from the 'Ryche, but I like most of their output. Dio has a small part as Dr. X but it is awesome to hear him and Tate singing on the same songs. On an aside, has anybody heard the "old" rumors about Geoff Tate's involvement in a band called The Three Tremors with Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden and Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Was there any truth to this? Did it ever happen?

The Three Tremors never panned out. The closest thing came when all three performed The One You Love to Hate when Halford went on tour with his solo band in 2000

Thanks. That's too bad it didn't pan out. That might have been an interesting group. I think that I have a Halford double live album. I wonder if that is on there. I will have to check.

just added in PA by Raf
the song choices seem interesting but I don't think I will bother to listen to it the band has not revived since Promised Land... even OMII was quite 'uninspired' IMHO |
