Unless anyone of us has actually been in space, none of us can really know.

Paraphrasing Dean: "walls were (are) made to separate people." However, the China Wall is most remembered for being a great architectural work able to perpetuate itself.

The talks in late 60s/early 70s were that the China Wall was the only human-made stuff able to be distinguished from the Moon's surface. Anyway, I never saw a picture taken from the Moon showing the Great Wall and so I tend to think it's another urban legend. The same applies to the illumination of the Belgian roads and half dozen of artificial dams, like Itaipu and Hoover.

or one can see something for what it isn't...

"The story published 11 May 2004 'Great Wall of China seen from space' featured image interpretation errors. The feature that was claimed to be the Great Wall is actually a river running into the Miyun Reservoir, northeast of Beijing. Further acquisitions of the region are being planned with other ESA instruments to investigate the subject further."

LOL

On further investigation I admit that the wall can be seen from space, but it's not easy and generally not with the naked eye. It is not the white strip you see on google images - they are rivers. The wall is the same colour as the rocks it stands on because it is made from those rocks.

/edit: checking Google Maps (I don't have Google Earth on my PC it's too resource hungry) came up with 17,000 Chineese resturants called The Great Wall Big%20smile

I'm sure that there are some Red Sox fans who claim that it can be seen from space.

But only 1 called The Mongol Horde.  Seen from space or not, one can assume from these numbers that the Great Wall did its job. At least in the cullinary context.
