Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the prog discussion polls. This seemed like the safest bet.

As I have stated before, I think there are too many sub-genres. Just my opinion, I'm not here to belabor the point. But one good thing I found about having sub-genres was it presented a way for me to approach writing reviews so I wasn't just reviewing all of my favorites and putting 5 stars across the board.  I discovered that of all the subs, I had all but:

Krautrock
Experimental
Raga-Rock (that term cracks me up)

Originally I was just going to ask how many of you had them all, then I thought it would make a good poll.

Edit: ack! I hit enter and posted the poll before I was done!

I actually think I've got something from all of them, even though of course I've got more material from my favourite subgenres. I am curious by nature, so I'll try anything at least once (no, not in THAT senseLOL...) - however, like everybody else, I have my own preferences.

Looking at what I have, it covers all the "genres" and "tags" here in PA.
So if I were to be added to the PA database, I would probably be categorized as Eclectic...

Now that I thunk about it, the only 'Various' that are listed on PA in my collection are from free (legal!) downloads and not complete albums.  I have a couple 'Various' like 'Nativity in Black'.

I am missing 1: I am missing an album from the Indo/Fraggle Rock subgenre, though I do have the odd Quintessence and 3rd Ear Band track on samplers and stuff somewhere. I aquired my first Zeuhl album this week, which I don't think it will be my last Approve and my prized possesion is the original vinyl copy of Kaleidoscope's A Tangerine Dream LP from the proto-prog section.

Scanning through the Various: Concepts, Samplers and Tributes lists I am embarrassed to say that I have enough of them to make me think of volunteering for the Various: Concepts, Samplers and Tributes Team Embarrassed

I recently acquired my first Indo-Raga Prog album... Shakti's "Natural Elements", hightly recommended!

I am missing 3: Indo/Raga, Italian Prog, and Zeuhl.  I have a handful of Cantebury, an Amon Duul album for Krautrock, and a couple of Univers Zero albums in the RIO/Avant category; so I barely have anything in these 3 categories.

My biggest categories are Prog-related, the former Art Rock subgenres, Prog Metal, and Neo-Prog.

Ok. Your on. But if I don't like it, I am holding you completely responsible.

Taking collection to mean hard copies, I'm missing albums from 5 sub-genres. Indo-Prog/Raga Rock, Jazz Rock/Fusion, Krautrock, Progressive Electronic and Zeuhl. Otherwise I'm missing albums from 2, Indo-Prog/Raga Rock and Zeuhl.

I have:
Prog Metal
Psychedelic/Space Rock
Experimental/Post-Rock
Crossover Prog
Symphonic Prog
Jazz Rock/Fusion
Progressive Electronic
Prog Folk

So I'm missing a few (need some Italian Symphonic, Eclectic, and RIO) but I've got a fair amount.  I missing 8 to be exact.

(I didn't count Prog Related, which I do have, same with Proto Prog)

my favourite genres are prog metal, experimental/post, symphonic, heavy (pretty much all of what used to be art rock), and prog folk

Same! I had listened to this album in digital form, and when I was in Oslo(to see Dream Theater and Symphony X ), I stumbled over it in a jazz record store. I was absolutely thrilled, as it's one of the best discoveries I've made during the last months!

Also, I get bragging rights for having an album of a genre(indo-prog/raga-rock) that the (and I'm kind of guessing here) fewest PA members listen to.
Obscurity creds for me!
The scattered jigsaw of my redemption laid out before my eyes
Each piece as amorphous as the other - Each piece in its lack of shape a lie
