Germany had a lot of folky prog bands.  I have included every one in the Synphonic site that mentions folk as a major component of the sound, so that hopefully no one has to choose other, but if you do, please specify whom.   Let's talk about them.  My vote goes to Carol of Harvest, whom I've just reviewed, with Ougenweide and Aigues Vives behind them.  Note I have not heard some of these, so any info you can provide for the more obscure bands, some not listed in PA, would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Carol of Harvest's album is my favourite at the moment but overall a tie between

Carol of Harvest
Fit & Limo
Hoelderlin
Broselmaschine

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Tell us more about Fit and Limo, Man Erg

Has anyone else heard Aigues Vives?  It's not bad, from 1983 so a bit of an anomaly.  They are not on PA.

sorry!  certainly this thread is far removed from the "big 7" or however many there are.  Probably the best known of the bunch is Hoelderlin, but they really were only folky for the first few albums, becoming much more symphonic, and less distinctive IMO, with each subsequent release, although still not bad.

I'll pick Emma Mydenberger if only for their magnificent Tour De Trance album (read my review for more details) but the others here are splendid as well (Broselmachine, Carol of Harvest, Hoelderlin, Ougenweide, Witthuser and Westrupp and even Emtidi which seems to not be that appreciated  but I like their music).

Funny this thread speaks of the subject after I revied an old thread on the very same subject

content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,

that is a total coincidence, as I don't think I noticed your "bump", Sean.  Or maybe it was subliminal.  Disapprove

Does this sound funny to you? Would you write this sort of nonsense about music from any other part of the world? Can you not even get the most elementary German grammar right? Do you read the Sun on a regular basis?

I'm sorry, I just thought Progarchives was less insular than this.

Several magnificent bands listed there. EMTIDI's "Saat" (1972) is in particular a breathtaking album - kind of a mixture of Tangerine Dream ambience, beautiful acid-folk and strong prog and Kraut elements.

Right you are, and I suppose the midwestern US isn't the easiest place to discover German prog-folk!LOL
