I love GG. I have recently discovered Yezda Urfa, which is very similar at many times, and Echolyn, which i like as well. What other bands are similar to GG? Thank you for the help.

I haven't heard them yet, but I always read that Spock's Beard is highly influenced by GG. Have to check them out soon myself...

Well, they've done a couple of songs which are a tribute or pastiche of
GG.

But not in the same league really as far as the vocal harmonies go.
Trying to get out from under...

Advent -the Benjamin brothers are a semi-pro band and about as close as you go with GG sound alike constistency on their one and only album also called Advent (took a long time to put together)  - you'll also find a track off this album on a double GG tribute album Giant Tracks.

For the discerning cynic, Spocks Beard can be heard  regularly sounding like Genesis or Yes, less commonly GG and on the rare occasion, Deep Purple.......................

A band that has often been compared to Gentle Giant, is Jethro Tull.  Listen to Songs from the Wood, you'll get what I'm talking about. Gentle Giant is often thrown into that Canterbury genre, but this is a mistake.  They have more of the "Chamber Rock" rock feel that is evident throughout "Songs from the Wood", than a Canterbury feel.  If you listen to the song "Songs from the Wood" the vocol harmonies are very GG like.  The time signatures are also complex and tight like GG and they use a little counterpoint like GG I think.

You might want to check out some stuff by Quebec band Octobre The three I have Are "Autoroute des Reves" (Highway of Dreams) "Chants dans la nuit" ( Songs In The Night) and Octobre 1972-89. Minus the violin they might not always sound like GG but they do have their moments and are definitely worth checking out.
