Fair is fair.  Since there is currently a negative poll about various prog-related and proto-prog bands that are included on PA, I would like to ask the flipside question.  Which of these bands which have had various levels of support for inclusion on PA, would you like to see included on the site?

All have been suggested from time to time for inclusion on PA but as of yet have not been included.  All of these artists are better known in other categories of music but at least have some progressive rock leanings throughout their career.  Although some of these artists could be argued to belong in fully prog category most would at best qualify as proto-prog or prog-related.

I have allowed for multiple votes so that you may vote for as many of the bands as you would like, but please limit your vote to one vote per band.  (That means you The T.  I don't want to see you voting 100 times for Metallica. LOL)  Please discuss why you feel that these particular bands might have a case for inclusion.  A couple of the bands have already been rejected by the Administrative Team for inclusion in Prog-Related, but if maybe certain bands in this poll get a lot of support, there might be a Special Collab out there who will be willing to bring that band to the Admin Team for a final say on inclusion or not.

P.S. I also left open some poll choices for other bands to be included or voted on.  I know that there are other well known bands that have been discussed, but my mind is drawing a blank at this point.  If you have suggestions please let me know, and I will edit the poll to include additional bands for discussion.

As always please keep comments constructive.  Both the positive ones and the negative ones.

Thank you,

Scott

Nice one Scott Clap Let's be positive! Smile
I'm really surprised Satriani is not on here. Some brilliant music by him, and quite a bit of it is proggy IMHO. And, wow, can that man play a guitar. I vote Satriani.

Miles Davis should be listed as many have suggested in the past few years.  His music and influence have spanned everyone from John Mclaughlin to krautrock.  Also, Talking Heads would be a nice addition that  could be placed in Prog Related alongside David Bowie.

I don't think any of those bands belong here, but what about Mew? The band's most recent album isn't anything other than prog. It's got polyrhythms & odd times, multi-part harmonies, songs strung together as if they were one big piece, non-conventional structures, etc. The album before isn't too shabby either. If the band can't get the official "prog" label yet, they should at least be "prog-related."

For the bands in the poll it has to be the Talking Heads. Belew later became a key member of Krimson and provided a great battle between him and Fripp on their later albums. Legendary even if you dont like his lyrics

I didn't include Miles Davis because it is my understanding that he has been accepted for Prog Archives and will be added as soon as the biography is written.

Erpland: Miles Davis will be in very soon, so not necessary to the poll.  It's just takena long time.
Miles Davis to be added to the Prog Archives
By darkshade, August 03 2008 at 20:24

There quite a few that I would like to see in various categories.  Laurie Anderson in related, Does Laurie Anderson belong in the archives?  and Laurie Anderson (that said I understand argument against, I just see and hear things rather differently),  Cream in proto-prog (one I've been mentioning since I got here, but hasn't been much support).  The ones I'd like to see in most are various bands/ artists that I proposed and were accepted long ago, but I have not prepared the additions yet (be a weight off my chest).
Another proposal, one not by me, but one I picked up the ball on, that I thought had merit was (a lack of rock in the jazz being the impediment).

I love Steely Dan and the Talking Heads, but I strongly feel they don't belong on Progarchives. I clearly remember Becker and Fagen expressing their disdain for prog, back in the 1970s. The Heads may have been influenced by Krautrock, collaborated with Fripp and Eno, and influenced King Crimson in turn, but their music never sounds like prog (which is where they differ from Bowie).

Todd Rundgren, on the other hand, recorded at least one truly progressive solo album: the extraordinary A WIZARD A TRUE STAR!

If I had to choose at gunpoint, I'd be Bjork, but I really don't see any of the artists here.

However, Animal Collective for psychedelic.prog folk
