Most of the music played comes from albums that I have  already featured through 2015. The exceptions include the much praised Weather Report 'Live Tapes',  and Mark Kelso's and Mystery albums. The latter two came in a batch of promos received last week, along with the funk fusion of J-Sonics and the excellent power trio rock of Dirty Streets.  Kamasi Washington album was recently voted the best release of 2015 by Jazzwise magazine. Manchester's Go Go Penguin have just signed to the legendary Blue Note label, following great reviews of their first two albums and live work. My favourite album of 2015 , and the one that I've played most, is Mats Morgan's 'Schack Tati', another excellent blend of jazz fusion, and zapparesque, quirky left field rock. Alas in two hours I can only play a relative handful of great music albums that come my way in the last 12 months. Enjoy.

hi Dick, I've gone through a rough year, after a burn out in January, but that got me back into the world of music, more than I was in the past few years. Reviewing albums, running my own radio playlist on ISKC (wednesdays, 9PM CET on http://iskc.rocks) and making new friends pulled me through, almost back to where I am supposed to be.
Thanks for some brilliant bass work the past half hour, that keeps me motivated to keep practising on my own :)

great to see you still at this Richard.  I haven't managed to catch one of your shows (at work when you are on) in some time but always loved tasting what you were dishing out.

Not to mention, though with Raff perhaps getting on board you might have some competition, you do have the single most sexy prog radio voice I've ever heard LOL

Hey where did this term go, this show and one more before the Christmas break.

Thanks to Mike Gavin of J-Sonic (also editor of Jazzwise magazine) and US-based Dirty Streets for promos, of quite different musics - both have got me going this last week. Newie for the Anglo-Norwegian band Food. The recent reissue of Herbie Hancock's big disco hit 'Feets Don't Fail Me Know'. After last week's sampling of 70's Chicago (acid folk?/ psychedelic folk?) String Cheese, a reminder of It's A Beautiful Day. Interesting Indo fusion by Israeli Tzur and Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood. I refer you to the sub-title of this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sunshine-Your-Love-Life-Music/dp/B013FIROZC/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1448722753&sr=1-1&keywords=jack+bruce+cds

and can only say, typical record company philosophy compiling the bleeding obvious, So I give you Jack Bruce doing something that indicates a greater breadth and depth of output, guesting on  Latin jazz albums by Kip Hanrahan.

Apart from a few exceptions I've been digging deep into the archives. New: Bret Higgins continues the innovative jazz/fusion issued by John Zorn's Tzadik label. Hawkwind's Nik Turner releases an album with a star-studded cast: look who Billy Cobham is playing with! And then there is the multi-disc release of King Crimson's TRAK Box. Zzebra a spin off of If and Osibisa, so mid 70's jazz rock with an Afro rhythm section. Manfred Mann's Chapter 3, is another example of early progressive musicians  releasing an album containing a variety of styles. But then there is quite some bias towards music from around 1970.  And we will finish with a reminder of the original Renaissance, said at the time to be Beethoven fused with blues.

A reminder of Allen Toussaint who recently died.  An album that passed me by originally, in the form of Lonnie Smith playing Hendrix. A bit of an experiment in the final 30 minutes of the show, rock covers of Dave Brubeck. The former voice of Hellsong, Harriett Ohlsson from her 2010 solo Arena Rock. Spot the Peter Gabriel sound alikes. The long awaited newie from Nitin Sawhney. And a sample from the Gov't Mule Stones cover LPs... on first listen not the best of the flurry of Mule albums released in the last 12 months.

This week's jazz section is mostly world fusion (including a third week of vocal/electronic percussion taken from 'Animata') separated by a couple of modern piano trios who made their names in the 00's. More from that excellent folk album by Gren Bartley. After last week's tirade re near-perfect musical copies, indulging myself with former Krimson men playing the challenge (?) that is 'Larks Tongues'. More from Motorpsycho's excellent retrospective. To reflect Phil Manzanera's range (beyond Roxy Music),  a couple of samples back to back. Also James Maynard Keenan featured twice, including a favourite Tool tune. Enjoy.

BTW listen to the playback of last week's edited show, IMHO the best one so far this term.... info below as to how to link to LCR's archives..

Some clues as to next Thursday's show.

Been enjoying the Buechi/Haberer collaborative album: Indian influenced vocals and percussion and electronica. Musical friends have provided me with some excellent music, folkist Gren Bartley and avant rocker Kim Sajn (nom de musique +1). And Gary Husband Facebook posted on the anniversary of Jack Bruce's untimely death, a delightful obscurity by an all star line-up... how was this missed originally? A reminder: David Sylvian is our featured musician of the term. Tool man James Maynard Keenan has a newie with his side project Puscifer. Norwegian band, Motorpsycho have just released a retrospective double, covering a couple of decades of recorded music and a must of post-psychedelia influenced rock. Have to mention the excellent recording quality heard from the Wishbone Ash album, the Beeb be praised and check it out on Thursday.
