Something like that - but Hellborg does a different take on Icon, and his latest (?) Art Metal is indo jazz plus metal..... Remember a  lot influence coming from McLaughlin, although Hellborg is in print saying his bass influence was Colin Hodgkinson

Riley predates Glass by quite a bit, actually being the founder of the so-called "minimalist" style...

I first heard him in the mid sixties while at University, and it was mostly his work with tape that inspired me, though, as i mentioned, his other stuff sounded very fresh and original too, at the time.

Glass didn't really get started until the late 60s - 70s, i believe and didn't become truly known until the mid to late 70s when he was doing film scores.

i find Glass to be a giant YAWN, actually - though some of his later stuff has some interest. Riley's music has an innocence and ambient aspect which i think harkens more to Indian music and the Fluxus aesthetic than Glass's more repetitive and static pop approach. (IMHO).

also i think Glass doesn't really consider himself a minimalist  - i'd agree he's more a REPETITIVIST Wink
structurally and harminically boring (which can work in the context of visuals, though).

Steve Reich - now there's a very musical example of the style, i think. his form of "minimalism" is quite deceptive, with formal and harmonic interest as well as a certain motoric aspect which works for him as a sort of minimalist mode.

all my opinions of course - except for the facts...

Virtually can't go wrong with the albums he did with Hellborg - but they are not all jazz rockl

Well, if Stern and Lane add up to a guitar "presto", I'd look into it.

Thanks for the show, I'm off now.

This one? Actually I like his  Janschology - his Bert Jansch tribute album - a lot. Does Black Mountain Side/Slide to remind it is a Jansch arrangement not a Page composition.
