It's an effects pedal for electric guitars that when activated simulates and acoustic guitar sound.

That would have been my first guess.  So why do you want one?  I've got an effects box (Floor Pod Plus) that I think can just about do anything. I like to lay on the effects playing with my electric.

I think it's relatively obvious why I want one... so I can play acoustic passages without the need to switch guitars all the damn time.

Nevermind, there aren't any presets on the thing for acoustic guitar simulation.

Just bought this mother:



Dave Smith Instruments Evolver desktop.

This basically does exactly what I want: Analog (should say not all analog--mix of digital and analog filters, and oscillators), monophonic with some attitude and incredible sequencing ability to boot. I'm excited about having some FM elements to a synth of mine now.



(Built-in delay, mind you)

The funny thing is I found the best deals at the time for the ESQ-1 and DSI Evolver at Guitar Center's online store. Sorry ebay, you jack up prices too much.

I think this thing will take sequences and bass lines in the mix (obviously), and I'll use the ESQ-1 for ambiance  and textures. I haven't messed around with the D110 very much (I bought it for $35 at a pawn shop), but maybe it will share the ambient role. I haven't really delved into the Kaoscillator. I'm sure it can do some sound effects and interesting things. Glides and glissandos in eastern scales would be cool. maybe make a cool sequence out of that.

So that makes the grand total:

I agree.  Clean guitar is superior to fake sounding acoustic.

For what its worth, thats not an effect. Its a special "piezo" or piezoelectric pickup in the bridge of his guitar. They are used in acoustic-electric guitars as well. I think that they pick up the vibrations of the string in their saddles and turn it into an electric signal. That said, I'm not exactly sure how they work but you can look them up on wikipedia for more info.

If you've played a Travis Bean or even know a bit about them, then you know how lucky I am to have one. There's been somewhat of a resurgence of these guitars with bands such as Foals, Arcade Fire, and Shellac. They were popular in the late 70's/early 80's with guys like Jerry Garcia, Stanley Jordan, and even Keith Richards. Look up Travis Bean if you're unfamiliar. I'll try and post some pictures sometime.

I was surprised to see so many Hagstrom players on here. Cool guitars but rather unpopular around here (Austin). Hagstrom instantly makes me think of Larry Coryell and that intense, searing tone that he and those early Hagstroms produced.

Damn, British Tradition, where did you get the money to buy all those keyboards? Aren't mellotrons like 10,000 dollars? You have pretty much every keyboard player's dream equipment.

Before I had a computer, I would always go to pawn shops and music shops and would always negotiate the price so I usually paid extremely little. I got my wah wah used for I think it was something like 35 bucks which is pretty unheard of. 

But damn, I hope someday I can at least buy a hammond organ, let alone a minomoog and mellotron!
