The audio is about the (social) media reaction to the interview with Charles Ramsey who apparently helped the women escape.

Pretty nationally embarrassing. I'm not sure whether they can carry that over to a general election when there'll be more people voting (since fringe parties invariably get a higher proportion of the vote when less people turn up). What I'm hoping is it's going to split the right wing vote enough that the Tories will lose a lot of seats. Also hoping it'll make the conservatives act like the GOP and keep alienating ethnic minorities until they don't have a shot at electoral success. It's pretty bizarre that people have managed to be conned into thinking that it's immigrants and benefit claimants rather than bankers or politicians who are responsible for our current predicament. Also, it's bloody weird people voting for UKIP as a protest party against disconnected mainstream politicians, given that it's got so many Tory MPs from the 90s who were put on the skip because of corruption joining it... |

UKIP can not win a general election. Local election outcomes are always slanted by protest votes. Well, certainly over here, because the mainstream parties have proved themselves utterly hopeless in addressing the needs of society, and tend to obsess more about the needs of the financial sector at the expense of the proles.
UKIP are a bit of a joke really. Their cries for freedom from the EU - some of which I concur with - are popular right now as we sit on the shore watching the ship sink, but in reality they are so far to the right they can barely stand. Some of their policies: 1 - Abolish national insurance. 2 - Impose an across the board income rate tax of 25% abolishing the 40% rate for high earners. 3 - Increase defence spending by 40%!!! 4 - Raise VAT (this was an old policy - not sure if they still stand for this) It's a tax that inevitably hits the poor harder than the well off. I would stop short of calling them closet racists, purely because that's what some tories called them, and I know that party is riddled with fascists, so I don't take anything the say very seriously. |
