After trying and trying, I just can't think Pure is as good as an album as Believe. No song on Pure is bad, but some do not really stick out to me. In particular, the "Comatose Suite" and "It's Only Me" are lackluster compared to their counterparts ("The Wishing Well" and "The Edge of the World"). I will say that "The Freak Show" is probably the best poppy Pendragon song, and it get's played a lot believe me.
In truth, I'm rather staggered at the divide between Believe and Pure on PA>>> 3.50 | 79 ratings Believe 2005 4.15 | 121 ratings Pure 2008 Pure has a little shy of 2x the ratings Believe does and quite a lot higher rating. All that goes through my mind is... Et tu? |

This is a mean one ! I dislike both in a way. Both albums give me a melancholic feeling thinking about the time the band was really great (nineties). But if I have to choose: Pure and that's because of the opening and the closing track. Besides that this album is more consistent than Believe.
The only song I like (and then I mean REALLY like) is Edge of the World, by far the most moving song Pendragon has ever made (although the guitar solo on Breaking the Spell gives me the shivers down the spine as well). So the best song on both albums is Edge of the World, the only department where Believe wins the battle.

Pure by a very long mile, to me the songs are stronger anf the guitar work is fantastic.
Then by adding Scott's drumming which is fantastic its a clear winner
Its not that I dislike Believe but it is a transitional album and anything that came straight after NOTW would have a hard time.

And I think Not of this World is way too dense. Believe was just right, but I agree the Middle Eastern theme couldn't have been continued. I like the stylistic turn they did with Pure, but I think a lot of the songs aren't up to par.

These are my two favourite Pendragon albums - very different in style, but both superb.
My vote goes to Pure for sheer quality AND consistency. For me, Believe has one slightly weaker song: No Place for the Innocent - otherwise this would have been quite a tough choice...

So tough to choose when these are 2 of my absolutely fave 3 Pendragon albums. In the end I plumped for Pure but there is very little between them.

PURE and simple this album rocks .always been a fan of PENDRAGON and the neo-prog bands. this album strays from that catagory into hard prog territory . without a doubt this is the best album i've bought in a long time. really cant wait to hear what comes next. |
