When you look at the amount of suffering childhood vaccines have prevented over the decades, compared to the relatively small number of extreme side effects, it is staggering that there is any debate about this.  
Equally staggering that a generation of young parents have absorbed this nonsense and are acting on it. 
 
Thankfully this flu has a very low kill rate.  The real danger is this pervasive ignorance occuring once we run into a bug with a 20% kill rate.  Then you are going to see preventable suffering on a mass scale.

Oh, I think someone's just afraid of needles. TongueLOL

I don't believe in making the shots mandatory, just be sure and wash you hands like you have OCD.

Nothing you can say will convince him. Just like nothing you can say will sway a conspiracy theorist from believing we never went to the moon.

Personally, I think the answer is simple; if somebody holds a philosophy that makes them feel above everybody else, they'll defend it to the death. So these folks can feel superior all the want for not getting those dreaded vaccines, while the rest of us 'fools' can rest easy knowing we're actually protected. Wink

Agreed Kos, it's a shame.  My SO is in public health, and can't believe the effect these people are having on otherwise rational people.
(And frankly, I think Corgan sucks without James and Darcy.)Wink

The flu shots you were getting in those years would do nothing to and are not related to the 2009 H1N1 virus. 

I'm not telling people not to get a flu shot. No reason to get upset.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I've forgone them most of the time, because swine flu isn't very big anymore in Australia, and only was for a month. And there was only a couple of cases reported in my state anyway.

However, if I lived in the US, I wouldn't consider not getting the vaccine. I'd probably say other people have avoided getting the shot due to lack of belief in medicine. I.E, they've heard you can get sick from injections, or for some unexplainable reason, they don't think they're at any real risk of contracting the illness, so they forgo the proper prevention.

The chance may be remote, but the remote chance  at a lethal nerve disease may be more concerning that the chance of bed rest and fluids.

After having the flu severely kick my ass for a few years in a row, I usually get one at the first opportunity.

It actually makes a lot of sense, considering that so far the lethality of this new strain of flu is not much higher than that of ordinary flu. Undoubtedly it's a tragedy for those who get really sick or really die from it, but last year many people died from ordinary flu without that much attention from the media.

I'm doing it every autumn, but I skipped it this year for some reason. My mother is working in a clinic, so injection shots are commonplace in our houseEmoticons.

And we are not overdoing it - perhaps once or twice a year. But I guess it's a bit unusual: other people usually swallow a pill if they're sick: we get a shot in the arm at home. But I have to admit I'm avoiding medicals altogether most of the time, especially painkillers.
