I've got more albums with Keith on it, but I still like Herbie. Duet anyone? That would be really interesting. Herb's certainly more funky but when you really want to go with the funk, Bernie Worrell.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Two very different musicians with very different styles and genres. Both are top of their field. This poll should have had a third option "Equally great in their own right". But since as you say with a somewhat indignant tone "CHOOSE!" I will.
Mr Emerson would you please stand up and take a bow. Mr Hancock, you may give a queens wave from your seat. |

I'vet yet have to find an album with Emerson I like, and I do like some Herbie material like Crossings and ofcourse the classic Headhunters.

Herbie is more versatile, has played longer at the top and is able to play in ensemble fashion. Which puts him three up on Mr. Emerson.

While I intended this as poll for people to vote who know both, but should have been more explicit about that, I appreciate your honesty and know that it is common no matter how explicit you are that there are those who will vote even if one explicitly asks people to only vote if they are reasonably familiar with both options. I love Robert Wyatt's music, by the way. Still, one of the reasons I do polls, since I don't really care about results, care far more about people's comments, is to increase exposure (though Hancock is well-known in these parts, I know there are those that don't really know him). I would recommend Crossings and Sextant to start with (called "Mwandishi" albums-- those were revelatory albums for me which lead me to explore many albums by the Mwandishi players (Eddie Henderson's Realization, Julian Priester's Love, Love etc.). 4.77 | 15 ratings Crossings 1972 4.52 | 16 ratings Sextant 1973 Youtube has various vids of his music (unfortunately, nothing of the amazing Crossings, but it's better to be immersed in the albums). Here's the first track off Sextant: |

You've got to be kidding me, why vote in a poll where you don't know one of the poll options, specially when there are only 2 options??!!
Don't you find it illogical? meaningless?
