Very good British band from late 60s/early 70s... I'm quite uncertain whether classify them as psychedelic/space rock or eclectic prog... just listen and enjoy:

I've not heard their music, so I have no opinion but I had to drop by to say:
1) That's quite a band name! 2) I am fairly certain that is not an official Myspace page and you probably shouldn't be linking to it as the Mighty Babies did not give permission to stream those tracks.

I've edited my post right now... will I find any song in streaming with band's permission? (...and the crowd yelled: no!)

Probably not. I'm not sure it's actually a big deal, I was just complaining. ;-) There's plenty of their songs on Youtube, though, brought to us by those brave copyright-free souls. And people link to illicit Youtube videos on here all the time, even though we probably shouldn't, so it's probably OK? I don't know, it's 3:30am and I'm still giggling from their band name.

I have not listened to the music of Mighty Baby. The member of Mighty Baby will develop into "The Habibiyya" later. The Habibiyya is registered in the item of Raga. However, it cannot know whether the conviction installed on the subgenre even if the history of Mighty Baby and the music character are considered anyway is certain. |

Please PM me with their samples you have now.
From Amazon samples I cannot feel they should be progressive at all, sorry. |

Well, actually there are some songs on You Tube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvLiGOalsIo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWP6F3H158A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWjd1cRUDgY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z5ldy7KC3g (Two songs from the first album and other two from the second one, but right now I only own the first and eponymous one). And, just to give you some brief information about them (taken from the CD booklet)... they were formed in 1968 by three founding members of the mod band The Action: guitarist and vocalist Alan "Bam" King, bassist Mike Evans and drummer Roger Powell. Jazz-based multi-instrumentalist and singer Ian Whiteman, playing keyboards, saxophone and flute (an English Ian Underwood?) and lead guitarists Martin Stone from Savoy Brown completed the band. Their music was largely based on improvisations, especially on the stage, somewhere between Grateful Dead and jazz. They disbanded after their second album, when Whiteman, Evans and Powell accepted Sufi faith and formed a band called Habibiyya (yet listed here under Indo Prog/Raga Rock); Stone formed Chilli Willi And The Red Hot Peppers, before abandoning music in favour of antiquarian books, while King joined pub-rock band Ace. |

Now I'm checking their live album "Tasting The Life: Live 1971".
Yet smattered only the beginning but felt very fascinating ... heavy psych free jam session with persistent flexible guitar solo and quilling, dry-fruity keyboard sounds like Eiriff or Deaf ... gonna listen more deeply and seriously but my first impression is they may be fit for Krautrock (or Psych, or Heavy). Many of the samples on PA are posted without artist permission, so let's not complain...

Interesting stuff (the YouTube samples). Sounds like one of those progressive blues bands that helped the transition towards prog. The first sample even sounded like Colosseum. I'll be curious to read Keishiro's impressions based on the whole album.

Well, after having listened again to the album this afternoon, my suggestion for the sub-genre would be psychedelic/space rock... krautrock is way more experimental, and they are not heavy enough to be classified as heavy prog (let's just think back to contemporary bands like May Blitz, Atomic Rooster or Uriah Heep...). Also, it's important to mention that they started out as a mod band (lots of psycho-prog bands of the period had strong 60s roots, just think about Arcadium or Second Hand), and their sound is clearly influenced by acts such as Grateful Dead... (well, I might be wrong, after all I'm just a newbie here)

Listened to their "Tasting The Life: Live 1971" again and again, that could remind me some free-jammin' Krautrock outfits surely.
A very great band indeed! |

I just listened the album too, excellent stuff! There are moments that remind of Krautrock and raga, indeed, but there are keyboard lead moments, blues, jazzier moments, all sorts of stuff. Maybe Eclectic or Crossover? I'll try to check out the studio albums, too. We should have this band on PA, definitely. |

Well, I'd suggest to listen also to their first eponymous album, I think it's a really good one!
